Childhood hook that got me into trains deep:

When was this pic taken? I know it was early this season judging by the new tire on the rear driver and the "bunting" on the front of the engine, but the date on the pic doesn't make sense. The guy on the right in front of 18 might be me!!!

Happy 4th everyone!

Below is a new MTH Railking car. If you look closely the yellow M&M is holding a sparkler that has an red/orange LED that slowly goes from off to bright and back again...It looks like it is the same circuit and LED as the FRED light...on both sides. It also has new couplers with no thumbtacks on the chocolate brown painted trucks.

I am starting to collect the holiday cars. So far: Fathers Day, 4th of July, Xmas, and Thanksgiving. I love the holidays!

Hi Jon, I charged my camera right before we left. The date always needs to be reset. I remember it was a Saturday! I think it was the 23rd. My girl thinks it was the 30th? I remember it was the week right before the double header. There would have been a great pic of the whole crew together but I missed it. Sorry, Joe

I'm really enjoying the pictures on the forum on the Fourth of July 2009. Great pictures as always!

Here is a shot of a 30 car BNSF coal train pulled by an MTH SD70MAC in executive paint and an Atlas Dash 8 BNSF.

And train pictures wouldn't be complete without at least one Warbonnet shot. Here is my Lionel F-3's pulling the Santa Fe El Capitan on the bridge across the gorge.

David (Baran),
I really like your layout - you have mastered illusion and made a nice small layout with what looks to be a lot of operating possibilities to boot. What are the dimensions?

David - I agree with Terry, I think you have mastered the art of the small layout. It is as good as any small magazine layout I have ever seen, in fact much better.

Terry it's funny, I just came back to post the same thing and saw your post.

VERY NICELY DONE! As a fellow small layout owner, I'm very impressed. It reminds me of the great 5x9 layout in the window of the "Old and Weary Car Shop" train shop in Old Tappan, NY. I hope I'm not breaking any etiquette rules by posting them here - I did ask him if I could take a few photos. And if anyone is ever in that town (in Rockland county) it's a nice store, and the owner is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.

One thing I noticed about it is it's a lot more entertaining than mine. I think the fact that he's got two trains that really disappear for a while in a long tunnel (like you seem to have) makes it that much more fun anticipating its return. I like the way you're bottom level loop seems to accomplish the same idea. Well done! Thanks for posting.

Super fun pictures, everyone...

I completed a new trestle this week and finished installing it yesterday. The old one was a little rushed, and I was never quite happy with it. I finally bought myself a band saw (good deal from Harbor Freight), and it's made the small stuff a lot easier.

Spankybird,

How did you get that turkey vulture to fly over your layout? Was it true 1:48 scale or did you have to go with 1:43? Big Grin

YES! My husband and I did go to the Pearl River show for the first time last year. It was AMAZING! And even more so because of the fact that it's built every year for a 3 week show and then taken down. It seems like a lifetime project to accomplish. We'll have to add the Orange County show next year. Thanks for the tip!

Great photos. Thanks to all who have served to preserve our independence.

My Lionel PRR M1a pulling a military train around the outer loop on my temporary layout. The train consists of the M1a, a Weaver PRR boxcar, an MTH PRR flatcar with two Sherman tanks, six modified Geller Toy Trains military flatcars with various diecast military vehicles, an Atlas PRR gondola and an MTH PRR N6b cabin car.

Two of the modified Geller flatcars

Richard,
Googled "RJ Corman Railroad Company GP9 Diesel Engine" and found an American-Rails.com site with a Roster that lists Diesel Engine #9007 is part of a group of GP9 engines [#9001-9010 - EMD GP9: Ex-Baltimore & Ohio/Chesapeake & Ohio].

Absolutely wonderful pictures everyone! I am especially impressed with the smaller layouts in O scale, very nicely done.

Hope everyone had an outstanding Fourth of July. My wife and I spent it alone together, unfortunately, but we did read the Declaration of Independence. You know that is the first time I read the whole thing! It's almost embarrassing to admit.

Now I want to start collecting 4th of July cars and the American Freedom Train.

This is the best forum ever!
