Has anyone seen or built this O scale oil derrick kit #152-468 yet?
Walthers #152-468 Oil Derrick Found out about this kit while looking over the Walthers web site. It's a Laserkit by American Model Builders. Curious to know how hard these types of kits are to build. This message has been edited. Last edited by: ssnoah, |

I did this oil derrick in O scale. It is an HO kit by AMB that I converted to
O scale and did a scratch build. Send me your email and I'll send you some pics. www.rtbaron@operamail.com Rich Baron |

I stand corrected....didn't know AMB finally did this kit in O scale.
It was a interesting project to do with a different look. Should be worth a try. Rich Baron |

Richard, thanks for your comments. Did you build the HO scale kit as well? How difficult was it?

Dave,
I bought the HO kit and built it up but it was rather fragile since it was laser cut. It was easy to put together but I only constructed enough to get the idea of the structure and put the details on later of the O scale version. I made the O scale version with solid basswood which was sturdy and solid. I don't know how the new O scale version is but can only guess that it is a laser cut structure. I also had a oil rig from alexander scale models which is long out of production which made the whole diorama interesting. The operating machine rig from Lionel could also be used. Let me know if you are interested in pictures of my version. Rich |
