We use a pair of these and have popped the fuse or circuit breaker on the 14V 3 Amp circuit..... Anybody know how I reset these or replace the fuse?.....

Checked the MTH user guide and there's nothing there..... sheesh....

Thanks......

They are behind the two cones to which the two main control handles extend from. Two circuit breaker switches are towards the bottom attached to each side of the main box. As I remember the tripped switch will show a white dot. The four amp breaker switches are above each of the 12 amp breakers, a pair on each side. A simple push will fire things back up.

Then again it is still Hollows Eve ... are you sure nothing else suspicious is going on Big Grin ?

I looked at my Z4k, there are two resettable circuit breakers on each side of the transformer. One of these should be for the 14v side. I don't know of anything internally, I have had the top of a couple of these, and never noticed a fuse to replace, although that is not conclusive. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

There are no internal fuses in the Z4000 for the 10 & 14 VAC outputs. They come straight off the transformer with an inline circuit breaker. Just push to reset.

Both the 12 and 10 VAC circuits are protected by individual 4 amp fuses. Like was said above, just press to reset, and you are good to go.

Thanks guys.... I found them and pushed them in - but still got no juice.... the 10V next to it is lighting up my tester but not the 14V on either Z-4000..... I just pushed them back in - and them seem to lock back..... any other ideas?

I'm going to assume that the problem is not with the transformer. You have checked everything on that errant circuit right? I had a problem once with a Gargraves unloading/uncoupling track once; all was fine until I hit the unload button for the PW twin-bin unloader car. Switched out that section of track and all was fine. I'm sure you are aware of the usual procedure: start with the last new thing you've done then, work backwards with each proceeding step.

At this point I am just trying to get voltage across the two terminals for the 14V circuit..... both Z-4000's come up zip.....

I tried hooking the lights to a garden power supply that reequired a cover for the electric eye and couldn't get that to work..... hooked them up to a Lionel ZW I had and dialed up the power, so the lights are back on, but I would like to get the Z-4000's working again.....

If my memory is correct, In Rich Melvin's Z4000 video, he said if those breakers pop then something is internally wrong with the transformer, and it should be repaired by MTH. I hope my memory is wrong for your sake!

How much current (Amps) are you drawing on that circuit? You might be overdrawing the rated output of that 14V line. Here is an easy way to check. Switchout the circuit onto one the AB lines (the variable circuits controlled by the handles). If you blow that circuit breaker on one of the AB lines than you know it's your circuit. If it doesn't blow immediately then s-l-o-w-l-y increase voltage to 14 volts. Now what is the Z4000's meter telling you the current draw is @ 14 Volts on that lighting circuit? Is it over the 4 amp rating? (PS I keep my current draws well under max ratings).

Good luck
