I needed two light bulbs for the MTH clone (nothing to do with Mr. Rome) of the Lionel 395 light tower. I went to the Shack and got two 6.3 lamps. Placed them into unit. seems the Shack bulds had a bluer and brighter light than the ones in the MTH tower. I had a Shack 12 V, so I placed into a O22 switch machine. Same result. Again, with a Lionel lighted laock on. At least i have a local bulb source!

Now the NEW Lionel 395 Tower uses all 12 V lamps. They are in wired "star", not series like the MTH and the older ones. 6 Volt bulbs will burn out....QUICK!

Amato's in New Britain Ct has all the Lionel Bulbs even the dimpled bulbs for the spinning airport tower. When I [won] a 495 on the Bay I replaced all four bulbs from Amato's. The tower works fine. I stay away from replacing bulbs with a different number/voltage lamp only because the rest of the neighboring buildings have original bulbs and I want the brightness to be even from building to building. I set the voltage using Lionel 35 watt accessory transformers. As much as possible I group the buildings so same lamps are on a single transformer. Billville has six of these transformers to get the desired power for all types of accessories on the layout...

Sorry about the number error. The number should be 395, not 495.
