Well, it says that they bought a large collection, and will be selling it off.

If you see something interesting in that picture, keep checking back. Buy more and they will combine shipping.

Seems pretty simple. You need to "show off" stuff to sell it.

It also looks like one of those sellers padding their pockets off high shipping rates. I just shipped a post war boxcar for $3.89 parcel post and it got halfway across the county to them in four days. If someone has to double or more the cost of shipping the auction comes and goes past me without further notice.

Seeing a picture of a collection wouldn't affect me at all. When I'm looking on eBay it's for very specific items, not a collection. It might put me off a bit if anything. Other people might see it differently.

I agree with jms2222. Large shpg fees to dodge the eBay sellers tax is a lose-lose proposition.

I bought some things on Amazon recently, not actually from Amazon but from one of their "stores". The prices were low and shipping was advertised as free. To complete the transaction you have to go through a proprietary checkout site (not Amazon's). That was the first time I saw a "shipping and insurance charge" and there was no way to exit or delete the charge. I completed the transaction and sent the "store" a note of my displeasure. They replied telling me if I wasn't 100% happy, that I could ship it back at their expense and they'd refund everything.

After I got the goods I was VERY happy with the items and didn't return them. Even so, I still HATE that somebody can charge when it's not disclosed.

I think this person just made a mistake on what pics they posted with the product. If I was going to buy a used car I would not care how many cars where in the lot. One or one million all come down to what dose the car I'm going to buy look like. Something like that would probably cause me to pass right over the add, sounds to much like a "bate and switch" to me.

There are photos of the items in question - just scroll down past the "collection photo".

Could it be argued that this is a misleading picture? I mean it would only take two people to think they were getting everything in the picture and drive the price way up in snipe bids. I don't get why ebay allows this. It reminds me of that chick who will post five pictures of herself holdinga train item in her underwear or whatever, then one pic of only the car close up.

Nine dollars for shipping a single car is very typical in the listing that I check. That's somewhere about what it would cost to send via priority mail. I think sales on inexpensive rolling stock with go a lot better if folks should ship for around four dollars, as you were able.

I don't think so.

Only if you just look at the picture and don't read the listing. Who bids on just looking at a photo?

I've seen that photo before. I believe it was on the forum when we were discussing shelves to display our trains. Or maybe the CTT forum.

Sorry but the pic is NOT a mistake because looking at his other auctions he starts off with the same collection picture.

Agreed. I just don't understand the psychology of the opening pic of this collection, many times the pic shows NOTHING of what you the buyer are searching for. I don't understand why the buyer just get to the point? Confused Reminds me of girls that just talk,Talk Talk,Talk, and hardly ever shuts up! Roll Eyes Mad

But to her credit, at least she poses with the specific item wanting to sell... subliminally using "SEX" to sell her item... for many times a bit more than usual. There are two of these women who show up and it seems to work, Red Face esp on the otherwise cheapo items!

Seems to be a confusing and distracting way to sell (to me, anyway).

But, if it works, more power to the seller.... Smile
