Having been a supporter of the ECRM in the recent past, I am saddened to hear this news Frown. They just in the past year had gotten the place fixed up really nice-- I go there every time I can when I'm visiting my sister and it's open. I wonder what got damaged? The last time I was there, the museum had located a replacement turntable bridge, and was going to put it into the pit and get it running. The roundhouse was rebuilt several years ago, luckily there were a few old photographs to go by. Most of the track work was done by the Army Corp of engineers on a volunteer basis. I really hope they catch the vandals Mad Mad.

Did a quick search of the Hartford Courant website and found some info: The roundhouses windows were smashed, several historic railroad vehicles damaged, paint splashed all over, the 0-4-0 was spray painted with swasticas, fire extingushers used on any thing within reach-- you name it, the perps did it.
I'm really MAD NOW!!

This is truly sad...I don't for the life of me understand why someone would do this. It is seriously painful to watch that video. I just have no clue what friggin type of world we live in where people would destroy a museum like that...How can someone have that much hate and anger in they're heart, that they would attack something that was done by a group of volunteers that put years of blood, sweat and now, tears into something like this?

I sincerely hope they find these useless diaper-stains on humanity.

Reason damage is done A) kids have way too much time on their hands. B) Any thing that looks nice kids must destroy for others C) Lack of parental oversight so kids run riot instead of learning they must not destroy things. D) Parents give kids everything thay want so big deal mommy and daddy will pay for my mistakes.

Kids always kids.

When I was a senior in high school, some of the "bad" boys broke into a hardware store and trashed it just to be mean. They caught them a day later, police beat them and put them into a cell. Their fathers came down beat them up also. The fathers told police to give them a dose of jail and hard labor to work off damages. One of those kids is a retired policeman now.

It somehow seem kids learned their lesson or at least paid for their crimes back then. Now they have 10 tax paid lawyers to get them off.

I really feel for all those that volunteered their time and for those that visit this museum.

What joy could they have possibly gotten from doing this crime? Certainly nothing close to the joy the volunteers get from working on those engines.

What a waste of youthful energy.

I feel especially bad for the crew there.
They are a nice friendly group.

Oh but don't ya know Billy, thats considered cruel and unusual punishment under US constitution. Better to slap Johnny's hand and make him cross his heart and promise he will never do that agin and let him go. Such is our screwed up legal system.

rrman. How true. We do not know who did this, however my guess young punks. (Who else could get over that fence)? If they are caught, Mommy and Daddy will hire some great legal mind, and claim the Railroad Museum should have had better security. After all they are only young innocent children.

I really hate when total losers give teens my age such a bad name like this...if they get off on bail or something I'm gonna be really pissed...I'll go beat the crap out of em myself if no one else has the guts to. Seriously...they're way to lenient on these type of things now.

"One of those kids is a retired policeman now."

Back then they taught them a lesson and let them get on with their lives. Today they just mollycoddle them at the time but if they are found guilty they put a computerized scarlet letter on them that never goes away. The old way worked better.
