In addition to the usual variety of Lionel, MTH, AF and scale vendors, the Connecticut Society of Ferroequinologists will have their layout at the show and Miller Engineering will also be there with their latest signs. There's also a riding train for kids scheduled in case you're thinking about bringing along the family!

Does anyone know about how far from NYC is Hartford? What kind of drive could one expect?

Hartford is 2.5 hours from NYC without traffic. Should be an easy drive on Sat or Sun interstate all the way. The center is right at an exit of I91. You could come up early in the morning, spend a few hours at the show and then hit the Danbury RR museum on the way back.

What's going on Bill? I see the new block signals in Westfield. Did you have a hand in the install?

Gary we are pretesting the new CP 105 at the stone quarry. This new CP is a giant step toward Lionel CTO jon's radio controlled switches he alludes to for Fastrack. In a loss of Dispatcher Remote Control Communication situation "any" Engine could line his own route after getting authorization! Sadly though the remote feature will not be turned on for now. Working Night's I am "pre-testing" all the new CP, or control point also known as interlockings. I test all the programing changes required for the track and signal changes checking that the code changes in the new and existing modified CP-100 and CP-109 plants will work correctly. But at the end of each test session I slide out the new and replace with the original circuit boards which contain the programming chips back in. LOL, This could never be done in the days of mechanical pipe controlled interlocks of course. In those days after modifying the many sliding rods which made up the "locking bed" any changes went "in service" right away. LOL

After electronically testing the new program changes this way the CP's can be ready for a quick "cutover" on the day we turn it all on for trains. Each CP takes days of careful testing. New switches that are "in" the track but not yet used are blocked safe so they act as a straight piece of rail for now.

As to all the new HUGE signals, while my "hands" were safely at my sides I had an EYE on the setting of the huge signals. That is as close to them as I will ever get. I don't climb them anymore. Gravity is not my friend. But I watched respectfully from a safe distance as cranes set them on giant cement slabs.

Billville will never see any of the new style signals on the layout either. I prefer the older Semaphore style signals where steam powered engines can run by at any moment...

They are doing all this when they have to raise the track bed for the new viaduct coming in the future?

This is because the track has to raise. A second close CP will reduce delays when there is only one track from 109 to 105. The old diamond CP 107 is going.

The New Haven Train Show though a bit small was great fun today! Movies and slides were shown and though very little O scale trains were for sale there were a ton of DVD and VHS movies and books on every line I could imagine. I saw retired men I had not seen in many years from the New Haven and Penn Central. Tomorrow should be a good show in Hartford also. More O scale will be there as it is a show more about hobby trains than real stuff.

See Ya!
