The word around Lionelville (one of the largest cities in LionelNation) is that a fully decorated Lionel Metro-North M-7 Commuter Train Set will be on display at the MTA's Open House at Harmon Yard on Saturday October 11, 2008. Be sure to bring your camera and post photos in this thread.

Here's a link to the Lionel product (still shows the real life prototype, not the model):

Nice, but not Legacy or TMCC equipped. If they offered a Metro North set headed by a Legacy equipped FL-9, I'd be interested.

Obviously, they're going after the "toy" market, not us scale guys.

Works for me. Too many failures on finicky electronics. I already put in my pre-order a year ago. Won't be long,I hope.

Lionel has said that they'll be shipping them to their dealers by the end of this month.

Just think--an M7 that can run up in your IRT subway Smile Just think of all the fun you can have with overlapping union jurisdictions Big GrinEekBig Grin

I don't see a front coupler. How're ya gonna hitch up two (or more?) sets to make a rush-hour consist, hm?

Oh, by the way, it seems to have made the Associated Press
(New York Post article).

The article elsewhere on the forum says it will be offered in LIRR next year so your wish is granted.

Is it just a yellow stripe or is there a mechanical difference?

Different paint job and markings. Third-rail shoes that pick up from atop the third rail (instead of below like Metro-North), and perhaps some software differences between the two fleets' onboard computers.

Cool. They look nice. A bit short I'm sure, but still pretty nice. I'll probably have to have a set. Now I just hope someone does an M1/M3. Big Grin
