As the official GG1 foamer, let me congratulate you first on your purchase. That is what I hope to do to several of my Williams (not quite yet by Bachmann) G's.
Just out of pure prototype babble, the 4882 was one of the last G's to run regularly as it was in the group of 13 that ended up with NJDOT and later New Jersey Transit. It got officially retired in October of '83 with the rest, but lost it's PC herald around 1976-early 1977. Looks great! Jonathan, you have the best info on G motors I have read. Thank you. I have many MTH GG-1 locomotives and just wanted a PC G. Although I love the operating pans on my MTH G motors, this Williams is an exceptionally smooth runner. I did not do this to cheap out as I do not do that on my equipment. The work to do the upgrade was rewarding as this is one smooth locomotive.

Marty, I made the same decision. I picked up the Williams PC GG1 at York last year with the intention of upgrading it to PS2. It is a very nice alternative to the Lionel scale PC GG1, which I couldn't find for under a billion dollars.

Way to go Marty. Any possibility of an OGR "how to article"in the future?

Brian, you made the smart move and you will be very happy with the smooth operation of the Williams. Sometime things happen for a reason.

I don't have a W/WBB G of either size. But of my SD45, SD90's and EF-4, they run smooth and quieter tan a Trappist Monk. A TMCC or PS-2 upgrade would make some sense, considering the up and down auto pans is not a deal killer!

I looked on the MTH website and could not find a scale PCC GG-1. This the reason why?

MTH has done a PC unit in the form of 4801 or 4804 (I can't remember which) which was 5 stripe DGLE with a "Dulux" PC logo under the stripes. That was an actually PC paint scheme and it got PC black in 1974. It was the last one to loose its whiskers.
I'm not sure why MTH has not cataloged a scale PC black version. In spite of many peoples feelings about PC's management (horrible), the era is modeled and these models do sell. Perhaps MTH will offer this when they do the next round of GG1's in a few years. In the meantime, this Bachmann one is really nice and probably when it is all said and done costs less than a new MTH version. The WBB G motors were all over York in the $230.-$260. price range. Add an upgrade kit and you are in business. I would like to comment that the reverse unit that Williams uses is a very good working product. I only did this upgrade because I am a bell and whistle guy.
