Electric RR has come out with a great cruise sound system for around 200 bucks. This is a different sound board than the 1st one. It uses lionel chips instead of the err 1st edition and they are good enough for me, and you get a choice of different ones.
I have one in my williams fm engines and it is super easy to install and works fantastic.
the entire unit is small enough to fit in the 3rd rail vanderbuilt tender with the sp 4-6-0.
all the installation is, is two input wires from track and two output wires to the motor. the sound system plugs into the cruise board and two wires to a speaker.
it is going to be tempting to put tmcc in all my qsi 3rd rail engines now.
lets see, I think my allegheny will be 1st.
the pulse frequency is at 20,000 hz which is way above the human hearing so if you are running with no sound the engine just creeps along with absolutely no sound at all.

Only one question; will it produce 4-chuffs per revolution??

If you want it too it will. Also you have a choice of 2 speed steps 32 and 100. They have been configured in a linear fashion so not all of the steps come 1st with the last steps coming faster. This happens in the 100 step range.
32 is compatable with lionel, with many close steps at first for good slow speed acceleration.
Using the legacy controller really shines in the momentum mode in the 100 speed step range. outstanding acceleration to all 100 steps if needed.
This would be an outstanding system for 3rd rail to adopt, their cam system would trigger the chuff instead of magnets etc.

Any idea when the ERR site will be updated with the new MCII and RSC boards? I'm itching to see dimensional information and pricing. I have an awesome project that I've put on hold to wait for these boards.

the empress is finally all working 100%. it only took 5 trips to weaver and completely all new electronics, added a traction tire driver to the front also and now have pulling power, a new rear tender truck to fix the axle rubbing on the coupler and a all new rear switch panel as the run program switch was not working. I wish these mfgs using the ta system would go to the electric rry system, way less to go wrong.
the tach reader was bad in my last weaver milwaukee baltic so it is in for repair.
I have decided not to purchase any new brass with the ta system until they go with electric rr. just tired of getting all the engines that do not run.
Iknow I have more than my share of trouble with the ta system but gary formerly of 3rd rail tells me I am not alone.

The systems are designed by Jon of Lionel and he has a guy on board during the day to call and ask questions.
he also just introduced a mini commander 2 with the r2lc built into the board and is very small to fit into beeps etc. has a full wave or pure dc output so is not for ac motors, just dc which most engines have now anyway.

this is for tmcc control but no cruise.

The following engines will have ERR Cruise (ERR Cruise Commander), RS Commanders, TAS Smoke Units, 2 and 4 chuff cam system for synchronized smoke and sound in them:
VGN 2-10-10-2
N&W K-2
GN M-2
SF 3700
SF 2900
E7 Diesels
GN 08
NP W5
GG-1 Old Rivets and Congressional - Sound Commander with GG-1 Specific Sounds
B&O T-3
PRR Doodlebug - Sound Commander Electric Sounds
UP CHALLENGER SE
ERIE S3/S4

Because of the tackless installation we think it will reduce our repairs, ease our factory installations and make our customers just that much more happy with our products.

Me thinks it is a good thing.

So what are you waiting for, RESERVE THESE MODELS!!!!

These new boards have not reached us yet, so they are not available for our current productions. But with our new optimized striping on the flywheel, new 10 pin isolated ground installation, our current models are running more reliably, smoother and quieter as ever.

Scott Mann

Scott, thanks for the update, but can you let us know the status of the C&NW H1a and the SF2900 class? Your last two newsletters did not even mention these two locomotives.

I'm looking for a "on the back burner, it will never get done, on the front burner, waiting for a bunch more orders etc". I understand if you don't want to give specific numbers. I know there are several of us in the Chicago area that are looking for these two engines.

Thanks,

Charlie

Good Day Scott.

Have you considered providing the option of Powered EMD E-7 B-Units with ERR Cruise (ERR Cruise Commander), RS Commanders, & TAS Smoke Units? An ABA all powered set with RS would make for a dynamic sounding consist with commanding pulling power!

Swafford

The SF2900 class engine has legs. I think after the 3700 class, we can focus on the 2900 class offering. One at a time.

I like the all powered ABA option, but not sure if customers want to pay for 3 powered units and electronics etc.

Scott,

I think you would get a lot of folks that would buy a powered AB set. I would. Some even a full ABA powered. I think people want a choice to make their own configurations. Most 3RS people are not big fans of unpowered units. Many for sound reasons alone. One sound unit is lame. So is two powered units sandwiching a dummy B.

If anything I would offer Powered A's and B's with a dummy A unit option.

Scott:

I might as well get my ore in the water here, so when you offer Great Northern E7s I'll get what I want. Big Grin

GN didn't have any "B" units, so, given the cost, I'm not willing to pay for a "B" unit that never existed. I'd like to see powered A unit sets available, just like they were run in service when in EB service. They should also be available in separate "A" units for those guys modeling the years after they got bumped off of EB service, and frequently ran as single units.

Regards,
Jerry

Scott, I will place my reservation for a GN O-8 and an NP W-5 as soon as you post the actual prices on your website (versus "TBA" last time I checked).
(I would buy a GN E7 A-A set as well and so would several guys I know...)

Alas Red Block,

If everyone did what you propose, the price would either be higher or the project would never get off the ground. I promise, if you don't like the price, you can cancel your reservation.

Scott, I for one would prefer that the NYC E7 I reserved have both units powered. I believe it's worth the extra cost. I'm still hoping you make the NYC H10! I increased my order to both an a and a b version. John
