I noticed the coupler cut levers on some of my GEs rubbing even on 081s. The GE-style lever extends rather far out from the pilot (see photo below). I solved the problem by using Kadee 805 couplers, or rather the plastic equivalent, instead of the recommended short shank 806s. That solves the problem in everything except backing moves through 072s. The coupler cut lever on the ACes is not as long, so you may not have a problem even with 806s. But I recommend using 805s or equivalent in any event. Just cut off enough of the back of the box to clear the three rail coupler mounting lug on the truck and it works fine (the "O" on the box bottom is a good reference point for cutting). Since I am cutting the back wall off the box, I use the 805 die cast box for strength and a plastic Kadee to avoid any shorting problems. RM |
