Lifelong train kook, been in hibernation for the past 7 years due to birth of my first and loss of my train room! Getting back into it. Gonna join a club with a large layout for now.

I own some real nice 'modern' Lionel and MTH engines, have a passion for steam and streamliner lightweights.

I am thinking about purchasing a new 3rd Rail Dreyfuss Hudson. My question is:
HOW IS THE SMOKE UNIT/ volume etc? I love a good smoker. My Blue Goose (MTH) can fill a room fast. My Lionels are just so/so (Cowen Challenger, Dreyfuss, EM-1).

Any other comments about this neat looking Steam Engine before I take the plunge?

PS, about the color matching between Loco and cars, I am getting the '38 cars with the blue stripe. I already have a Lionel Dreyfuss which is the darkest grey of all the avaiable Dreyfuss's. QUESTION: Does anyone have these cars with the Lionel Engine? If so how good or bad is the match?

I have the 3rd Rail Dreyfuss and can highly recommend it. The smoke unit is great in a command environment and the TMCC functions are great! As foe service, Third Rail easily has the best customer service above all.

Welcome to the forum.

Regarding your smoke question, I can't give you info on the NYC stuff, as it isn't a railroad I model. What I can tell you is I am happy with the smoke output on my latest 3rd Rail stuff (NP Z-6 and Z-8 Challengers), but it doesn't "fill the room" anywhere near as much as my MTH GN R-2.

Great vids. They seem to smoke pretty well. Yeah but MTH really smokes it up. For future reference, are there any upgradeable high volume smoke units to be found on the market? TY!
