Step One. Remove the plow.

Step 2. Remove the pilot part. Both screws for the plow and this are right next to each other.

Here is the part.

Step 3 Take the shell off. Remove 8 screws around the shell.

Step 4. Disconnect the proto coupler.

Step 5. Take this screw out and unscrew the truck from the frame.

Step 6. Unscrew this bracket. This will enable you to get rid of the bane of O gauge, the tinplate coupler. This is the part that you will attach your kadee coupler assembly to.

Here is your part.

Step 7. Get yourself an Atlas Saw, and saw off the tab.

This is what it will look like. File down after the cut, and make smooth.

Step 8. Get a piece of brass stock, sold in all reputable hobby shops, or anyone that still exists that caters to modelers. You can always adjust for thickness using kadee shims. Put it next to the frame, and measure out to the front of the pilot, and then cut with your Atlas saw.

See what we are doing here? Making an extension for the kadee mount.

Step 9.
What I did here was to drill two holes through the brass piece we made and the bracket, using a Micro Mark Drill Press. Use a number 50 drill bit. Then, tap the holes using a 2-56 tap. When you tap a predrilled hole, add a drop of oil to the hole to prevent the tap from breaking, proceed slowly with 1/4 turns. After the tap breaks through, continue until you thread it through. Then back it out carefully. Now you have created threads so your screws can thread. Now use 2-56 screws to attach the parts.

Here we are.

Step 10. Now do the same for the 805 Kadee. Drill through the kadee holes with a number 50 drill bit. Tap with a 2-56 tap just like before. Then screw the 805 to the part you made. Here it is. Cut the top of screw stems flush. Use a drop of Loc-tite glue for good measure.

Screw the bracket back on to the frame. Put the shell back on. Paint the brass with Floquil Steam Black, and here you go.

You can also do the same thing for your Milwaukee Road Little Joes, which I am doing here. Take the front pilots off.

Measure your brass stock, attach to the pilot etc.

Pete, nice work. I have two sets of these box cabs. They sure look better with scale couplers. Thanks again. Don

Jeez Louise Pete - that sure is a bit of work! Nice how to. When you get to your GG1 you will be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is compared to this conversion.

Tom,

Dinner table, snack bar... The comfy chair has many uses.

Don,

You going to give it a shot?

Jon,

Yes, not exactly Kadee ready! I of course have seen your GG1 conversion and it will prove much less a challenge. And I always thought the Pennsy made things more difficult.

Pete - you forget that the GG1 was built just PRIOR to the PRR's stupid era. They were still heavily into their own standard until the late 30's. Big Grin

How standard railroad of the universe and at least 1 example of every diesel ever built until 1967 is still beyond me.
