I would like to light my streets and buildings, but all I can seem to find are these gigantic lamps. Any suggestions for scale or near scale sized street lamps that light?

Charly,
You just have to pick through the field. Model power has a few nice ones depending on what era you model. I found a real nice HO size I liked and put it on a concrete block to make it the right height.

Charly, I agree with R.R., Ho ones tend to be better in scale. BRAWA makes some very nice lights. I used some on my Union Station project and I think they look great.

Do the Jason's lampposts light up? What voltage? The Website leaves much to the imagination.

Those are HO? Eek I have often wondered if they could be used. What you show in the photos looks great...

Thanks

Sometimes we take for granted the size of everyday objects around us. If you see a modern street light laying down in your local public works yard you might be surprised how large it is. They look much smaller standing up. 3 1/2" is only 14 feet in O scale. But the 1:1 scale light across the street from me stands taller than the neighbors two story house. This might be an instance when "looks right" is better than scale.

If you google street lights you can find vendors for commercial street lights. Most residential, small town lights range from 11 to 14 feet high. Overhanging lights on expressways and boulevards might reach 18 feet for truck clearance. Many of the Walthers and Brawa HO street lamps measure 12 feet in O scale (3 inches) to the bottom of the globe.

I lived in an older town in Ohio for a while. The street lights looked like converted gas lights. I don't think they were over 14 feet tall, probably closer to 12 feet tall. From my second story, you looked down on them. I have been buying Carol Town street lights by Lemax. I buy them at Lowel's at Christmas time. These come with little red bows that I carefully break off. They are quite inexpensive. K-line had street lights in their catalog, that looked identical, but cost a lot more money. I also use their crossing signals and street corner stop lights. SmileSmile

I know that they do, I have seen them on photos of layouts. I have no idea what the voltage is. I would like to purchase these for myself in a couple of months. I hope to be ready for them by that time.

After I posted the reply about jasons, I found this on his website:

"All of our poles receive the essential detailing, wire insulators, telescopic tapering, wire hangers, and our lighting poles feature working lights running at either 1.50 volts or 12 volts including the necessary wiring."

That should answer both of our questions.
