The Independent Hirailers were set up last week end, and for this coming week end for Day out with Thomas at Illinois Railway Museum. Lots of trains have been running for the kids, and it was a chance for everybody to get together for our first of three group sessions this year.

But something strange has happened. It might be the result of fluoridation. Yes, Fluoridation, O Scaler. It has robbed one of our group of his essence, because, essentially, up until last weekend, SantaFe Jim was a White Sox fan.

Several members of the group noticed SantaFe Jim's Toyota at IRM this weekend. Heads turned.

Upon closer examination, an unspeakable horror was revealed.

Somebody mentioned to Hot Water that there was evidence that SantaFe Jim had thrown away a lifetime of loyalty, and became a CUBS fan.

He was deeply shocked.

Photographs taken later this past Sunday confirmed the group's suspicians, that Santa Fe Jim was reveling with a group of CUBS FANS. Oh, the horror.

When Hot Water learned that it was confirmed that SantaFe Jim had indeed went to the dark side, he popped his safety valve.

When confronted with the evidence, SantaFe Jim emphatically denied going bear crazy, and postulated that it was all a mean hoax played on him.

Further investigation is necessary, and there are clues within the photographic evidence and next episode titles as to who the perpetrator of this heinous hoax could possibly be.

Stay tuned for the next episode which plays out this weekend,

"Sasquatch has BO"

OR

"Hirail has gone to the dogs".

Come out and visit the Independent Hirailers Midwest Division crew at Illinois Railway Museum this weekend if you can help solve this mystery.

Edited for speling, turned 50 and I can't remember how to spel anymor.

Raining cats and dogs out here currently at 1:00 AMish. Fortunately not enough to start flooding the electric park and cause the SS PortaPot to start listing like last year. Then again, the weekend IS young!

Speaking of cats and dogs, I recently had an incident when "Chessie" got where she was not supposed to be. Fortunately, she was careful enough to not step on the trains, as she could really do some damage if she wanted!

It would and could be a beautiful thing! Us Cub fans can only hope that they put a end to this 100 year drought, I have to admit that it's been a very fun year to watch them. One things for sure Elmer, The Cubs have the D-back's World Series Manager up in the booth and is a joy to listen to!! Good Thread

Now for the next question concerning our time at IRM.

Which IHMD member has the greatest "slugging" percentage?

A. MWHirailer
B. MWHirailer
C. MWHirailer
D. MWHirailer
E. All of the above

So far, he has sideswiped one express reefer, did a head on with an Empire State Hudson, a$$ ended a NP caboose, and tried to launch the end of a train off of the geezer gate. I think this is some kinda record.

The sad part of it was that he wasn't even distracted. Big Grin

regards,
Jerry

As a member of the American Water Works Association, let me assure you that there is no scientific link between the fluoridation of drinking water and Cubs related mental disorders.

There must be some other source for this loss of essence and disturbance of peace on earth, or at least peace on the north side.

If you know anyone tempted to cheer for the Cubs please refer them here and help them to please stop believing, it is NOT gonna happen! Lou may be a miracle worker but he needs an exorcist.

Obviously the hitting champion of the Midwest Division. In the Western Division, there's a battle going between "Sideswipe Pignatelli" and "Centerpunch Jackson."

Nice photos, guys. Good story line.

BTW, Kanasket, that vid was just plain wrong -- funny as heck, but plain wrong. Cubs cult members require serious intervention.

Santa Fe Jim

I'm not so sure about that Jim. My second greatest moment as a Mariners fan came in October 2000. Do the words Carlos Guillen, Ricky Henderson, Squeeze Play and sweep bring back any memories?

Of course THE moment for mariners fans, and one that I witnessed in person, came 5 years earlier. You couldn't ask for greater drama. Bottom of the 11th, Ms down one run after Randy Johnson gave up a run in the top of the inning. Jack McDowell in for the Yankees. When have you ever seen two Cy Young award winning starters in in relief in extra innings? And the Ms were perfect with Joey Cora's bunt, Jr's single, when he had to single. And Edgar's double, THE DOUBLE!! PERFECT!!!

The squeeze against the White Sox in 2000 was great baseball, a great ending to a great game. But 1995 was even better, it will always be THE moment for Mariners fans. It was the moment when everything that was great about the "Refuse to Lose" 95 team came together to win. And not just to win a great game like in 2000 against the Sox, but to defeat the Evil Empire. If we can agree on nothing else, I'm sure we can agree on the necessity of the utter destruction of the Evil Empire. And the Empire is collapsing from within......

But the Mariners, White Sox, Bo Sox and even the Evil Empire have histories that are defined by players. Randy, Junior, Edgar, Shoeless Joe, Carlton Fisk, Bucky Dent, players all. Even Bill Buckner's contribution to extending the Curse of the Bambino is a moment defined by a player, even if he was a former Cub (and therefore doubly cursed).

But what about the Cubs? What moments define their history? A goat? Ferris Bueller's day off? Steve Bartman? Come on, are the Cubs a ball club or a side show attraction?

As evidence of the side show status of the Cubs I suggest the following. Search Youtube for "drunk cubs fans". Parental Guidance is strongly suggested, for the Cubs fans, you are on your own. Matt, you are so right. Theses people need serious intervention. Forget Dr Drew, where are the ushers?

There is only one side show in Baseball today that is a more shameful travesty the the 100 year old bad joke known as the Cubs, the Evil Empire itself. The Curse of the Bambino has been reversed and is currently being visited upon Yankee fans in the person of Alex Rodriugez. Puts up big numbers when it doesn't matter but ALWAYS chokes in the clutch.

Way to go Pay Rod!

Matt,

It's just like baseball. I'm sure that there are layout groups out East who also have designated hitters. Perhaps we should have a world series. Big Grin Big Grin

This past Wednesday August 20th, Don Ellison, 2Rail Bill and myself were invited to come out to IRM and run trains on the HiRails layout. It was a beautiful day weather wise and very enjoyable as our hosts Jim Robellard and the Sasquatch were most gracious. A great time by all.
My most sincere Thank You.

I'm starting to build a New England style factory which will be named,
