ADVANCE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE
2ND LIONEL LEGACY USERS GROUP MEETING

Tentatively scheduled for:

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2008
8:00 - 10:00 AM

Tentative location:

ALEXANDER'S RESTAURANT
840 CARLISLE ROAD, YORK, PA

Marty Eibeck (MartyE on the Forum) will be your M.C.

Lionel has graciously agreed to participate as they did at the premier meeting in April.

Mark your calendars, and please suggest by posting on this thread Legacy issues you'd like to see covered and questions you have about the Lionel Legacy system and Legacy locomotives.

Also, please email me (waallen3@earthlink.net) and/or post on this thread if you intend to attend in person so we can get an accurate headcount for the room, with thanks.

You don't have to attend in person at York in October to post Legacy issues and questions you'd like covered at the meeting. We will document what we learn from Lionel and from each other at the Legacy Users Group Meeting and summarize for everyone on the OGR Forum.

Time and place to be confirmed as the time approaches.

Regarding venue, I've already spoken to Paula (Manager) at Alexander's, and she says the only room we can get there is the same basement room we had in April. While the room itself may not be ideal, Alexander's is extremely convenient to the Fairgrounds for a quick getaway to the show after our meeting. Paula has promised to reconfigure the room the night before to optimize the seating if we get a big group.

Regarding our tentative schedule, the Friday 8-10 time slot seems to be the optimal one because it doesn't conflict with regular and longstanding York meetings. Suggestions for alternate days/times will be considered.

Hope to see you there! (York may be 3 months off, but rooms at the Best Western and Hampton are already sold out some nights the week of October 13-17.)

I will only come and MC if I get a bigger dressing room and a microphone. Big Grin Big Grin

Of course I'll be there! Looking forward to another great get together. And thanks to Will for kick starting this again. I of course will bring whatever I can to help and do what ever needs done.

I'll be there. Now that I know there is a basement room I'll be there on time. Breakfast was cheaper in the upstairs room so maybe I'll get there early.

Well, here we are still 3 months away from York, and it's been just 12 hours since I posted the announcement, yet already 5 of us have committed to be there, plus at least 2 Lionel folks. I wonder if, as Police Chief Brody said in the movie JAWS, "We're gonna need a bigger boat."

Paula, the manager at Alexander's Restaurant, is a wonderful person who'll do anything to help us, but she says the upstairs rooms, which are much larger, are always booked on York week Friday mornings with 2 busloads of people coming in for the show. Does anyone with in-depth knowledge of York have a suggestion for a larger venue in case our gathering attracts more than 30 people?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

WILL,
I can't make it this time in October. I'll be just at the YORK meet only on Saturday in October. I'll be there in April on Friday though if we are having another get together. If there are engines you need I should be getting a few new ones by then and can bring them along. Sorry I can't make it but hopefully YUZ GIZ will have a great time. Enjoy.

I doubt my brother will be there this time. I think he just humored me as he is a stick in the mud PW guy. It does seem like we may have a few more folks there. I guess we'll just need to see how it fills up. I don't know of any other places but perhaps a local will jump in.

As far as MCing...

Big Grin I require M&Ms but please pick out all the green ones. I like a bottle of water at exactly 45 degrees and the room temperature at 68. When I walk into the room no one should look directly at me and I will not sign autographs. Big Grin

I'll be there.

Will, the Viking Hall on N. Adams St and Orange St might be available. That's where we had our AOL Dinners on Friday night. It's one block west of N. Highland and Orange St is the block of the gate on N. Highland. I'll check with a friend in the area about them doing breakfast.

Will,

Thanks for organizing this again. The first meeting was productive. Rich Mosher and Mike Reagan being there was a benefit to both LIonel and hobbyists as the two got to compare notes. May be we can get Jon Z. there this time.

I expect to go again to the meeting, so count me in.

However, it appears we have one serious problem that needs to be resolved before October. That Marty E person's head has gotten a little swollen with the demands he has made to continue being the MC (what's wrong with green M & M's?). That will do it to one after they sit in a 53 foot white box for a long time. Frankly, I am surprised Marty can even get into the white box with that swollen head of his (I bet the picture of him in the last issue of CTT also contributed to this). Please do not give into his demands. I can MC if you need to throw Marty out.

Will, count me in. I will be coming from Missouri. I missed the April meeting, but I am coming to York specifically for this meeting. I need to learn all I can on this new system.

Thanks to Lionel for having their guys show up for this.

See you all in York this October.

Wow, what a response in just one day! As of this post, we've got about 12 people, counting folks who emailed me directly. Plus 2-3 Lionel guests.

Unfortunately, Marty's bloated ego is now the equivalent of 42.634 people, and we already exceed the fire marshal's limit for the room. Thus we might have to accept Erol's threat, er, I mean, kind offer to bar Marty. Maybe with a long microphone cord, Marty could conduct the meeting from the parking lot while we munch on the green M&Ms he eschews. After all, he's used to working from a monitor in a remote location Big Grin.

Seriously, looks like we're going to have a great group and a fun meeting, and there's nobody I'd rather have moderating than Marty! That is, if we can just get his bottled water to the right temp...

Tentatively Yes.

I am not 100% sure how my schedule will work out for that day.

Marty,

Is there any way Legacy owners who are not able to go to York can submit question/s to the Legacy users group so they can obtain answers, etc., during the meeting at York? The answers can then be published after the meeting.

Just a thought.

Yep. You can email Will Allen or myself. We will include them in a pre-submitted Q&A to Lionel as we did last year.

Adding to what Marty said (two posts above), we want to solicit agenda items to be covered from everyone interested in the meeting, whether you are coming or not. Please post them here and/or email them to me at waallen3@earthlink.net, with thanks.

And thanks to everyone who is adding their names to the list. Marty and I are keeping up with your names.
