I was wondering if any one has had a similar issue that has recently came about with my legacy NS SD-40-2. When I fire the locomotive up and get it moving everything is fine. Then after a minute or so there is no response to speed control and direction control however the horn and bell still works along with the rest of the keypad controls and interesting when you blow the horn the ditchlights do not oscillate once the speed contol stops responding. I am running with legacy and have gone thru all the reset steps for the locomtive and memory module. It almost sounds to me like a faulty reverse unit board or it may be loose. All my other legacy power units work fine. I like to try to correct something here before I send it off for repairs. Any ideas? Thanks.

Trainman, has your Legacy been upgraded? I have seen similiar problems. Even going back to V1.0.

I had the same problem occur with my engine. It's the DC motor driver board. Mine would run just fine for awhile then just stop and not move at all. Got the driver board replaced and all is well. Call Lionel, they'll take care of you.

I also had this problem. I took the shell off and made sure all the wires on the Molex connector were pushed in tight and so far no more problems. The Molex connector is the square four wire plug that plugs into the driver board.

Thanks everyone. That's exactly what the issue is the drive board. Its going to my local service station tonight for repairs. After talking to Lionel today before I could finish the sentence on this issue the technician knew what the problem was.
