I understand from reading past posts that you can only use 99 different engine ID numbers with the Legacy system. Are these numbers limited to 2 digits or can four digit numbers be assigned to engines? What about TMCC engines? SmileSmile

The engine numbers are up to 4 digit, the ID's are 2 digit. It makes no difference whether it is Legacy or TMCC, the 4 digit is simply a name which ties back to a 2 digit engine ID.

And I went to pick her up in the rain
But before I could get to the station in a pickup truck
She got run'd over by a damned old train

Thanks Chris,

That alone will make the purchase of the Legacy control worth while. SmileSmile

Just a warning... the 2 address (ID) setup for trains works only with Legacy engines. Legacy MUs using Legacy engines can use TR 1-99. The address scheme for TMCC1 engines are still limited to 0-9.

Let's be clear for Lisa Marie.... Like TMCC, Legacy only allows 99 engines...no difference in the number of engines that can be in the system.

The difference with Legacy is that you can name the engine with a name and cab number. The cab number can be four digits. However, that has nothing to do with the engine's ID number.

What I am trying to find out, when I go to address an engine, do I have to go by the two digit number, to operate a particular TMCC loco, or can I punch in the 4 digit number, that is on the side of the loco? I don't have 99 engines, but I do have some with the same last 2 digits and some with the same first 2 digits. Since I model the SP mainly, it is not likely that I will have two engines with the same engine number. Can I program the remote in such a way that I can punch in a four digit number, and the remote will send the appropriate 2 digit signal to the loco?

Using "Select" on the Legacy remote will let you enter the 4 digit road numbers to select engines provided it was entered by you or the Legacy memory module.

We were hoping that Legacy would have added the capacity for more than 99 engine numbers, and were quite disappointed when it could not. We have a very large collection of TMCC engines (over 100), plus many command control operating cars, sound cars, etc. We have had to duplicate quite a few numbers, and then you lose the advantage of being able to search by the cab number on the engine (which is a nice feature).

We are working on re-numbering all of our engines, etc., to better organize the duplication. Many are already programmed into Legacy. Is there an easy way to change the ID numbers on engines already entered? We were thinking we might just do a base reload to clear the memory and start over with the new numbering scheme. Any suggestions?

Any hope that more engine ID capacity might be made available as an upgrade at some point?

It was hinted at BUT NOT confirmed that this is possible but not implemented at the Legacy Users Group Meeting at York. There was no other conversation about it so I do not have any details.

No. All the info is stored in the base. To me that is a cool feature of Legacy. I come to your house with my remote and I'm ready to run everything on your RR.
