I've looked at many of Lionels pc boards as well as the different wiring diagrams on these newer tmcc engines and no were does it identify which board is which. Anybody else have these issues? How did you finally identify the boards! Thanks

Witch boards are you trying to Identify. Are you trying to determine witch of the 3 small boards go in what position on the mother board? Which board came out of what loco? Need more information to be able to help you.

Kind of all of the above. I know its kind of vague, but I thought the boards would be the same. Any help is good, thanks

A good place to start is with Lionel's documentation. Go to the Lionel web site, then into Customer Service.
From there you can look for specific information in Parts Lists & Pictorial Diagrams. Also look in Owner's Manuals. Select TrainMaster Command Control category and click Go. Look for 72-2960-250 the manual for the upgrade kit. It has some diagrams and photos of the TMCC electronics. That's just the start - there is a lot of information on the Lionel site. Then look over the Electric RR, Digital Dynamics and TAS sites. Cam |

If you have the board in hand to look at, most all of Lionel's boards have the part number in the silk screen printing usually on the bottom of the board. The version is usually stamped on the top of the board on one of the chips.
The board art usually matches the number in the parts list and drawings of the the loco or unit. Carl |

My most recent upgrades with Lionel boards were done with either Train America Studio, Electric Railroad, or Digital Dynamics mother boards.
There are (3) Lionel boards used by other manufactures. Radio Control board R2LC08, the last two number could change. A Sound Board, and a sound Power board. TAS EOB System Front of engine to back. Lionel Radio Control Board, Sound Board and Sound Power board. Bottom of the electronic system is the mother board. Electric Railroad RMT Beep driver system. Installed in a Rich Yoder GE 44 tonner. Radio Control board installed on the mother board. A seperate Electric Railroad, not Lionel, sound board is provided and installed seperately. Note the sound board in this picture with an Electric Railroad description on it. Digital Dynamics/Lionel components in a small steam locomotive, Weaver Pennsy G5 4-6-0 tender. DD has a driver component. Front left of this tender with the Radio Control Board. And a Sound component board, middle right of this tender. The sound component has the Sound board installed in the middle of the board and The sound power board with the copper donut to the rear of the board. Both components are wired together with modular wiring provided. DD and TAS are very similar in using the (3) Lionel board system. Electric Railroad only used the Radio Control Board. |

Mike CT, Thanks for the photos and examples. This is very helpful in terms of identifying the different boards though the configurations may change slightly, thanks

I have acquired several TMCC conversion pieces second hand, from folks converting to DCS or DCC. Most of these use the three board system, with a variety of Mother board combinations. Some use separate mother boards, for the motor control and sound. Lionel has a number of MB combinations. So far I have been able to find wiring diagrams on the Lionel website as mentioned above. TAS and DD, have their instructions available on their websites.
