trnluver,
i reset and that did not work. i took the shell of the tender and noticed the red wire had what looked to be black tape around it about halfway up from the board it plugs into. none of the other wires had this. i dont think it was black tape. in any event i moved the red wire around a little made sure all the plugs were seeded in the boards and put the shell back on and guess what, it worked. the reverse light sometimes flickers a little (not sure if this is normal) so i am wondering it something is still loose. anyone know what that black strip is on the red wire? Is this normal? Maybe there was a problem with the wire and this was used as a fix? Greg, "Just run your trains!" JRYT Club |

I have the same engine and have not taken the tender apart. I have a feeling there is a poor splice under the black tape. Remove the tape and if the wire is just wrapped together you may want to solder it then put new black tape over it. You can also use an ohmmeter to check the connections.

I have this engine. Not had a problem with the back-up light.
But I have did have a issue with loose boards/connectors causing it to act in a crazy manner. I've had both loco and tender shell's off and re seated boards/connectors and so far...fingers crossed it's working fine. My thoughts are that TMCC/Legacy engines don't travel well and if they get any rough handling in transit the boards/connectors can come loose. With my location they travel further than most. I have receive two LM BB where the screw holding the truck to the body was no longer installed upon receipt, so as you said it may be an issue with shipping.

That disturbs me about Lionel's quality control Ultimately its Lionel's job to ensure this does not happen. Not the manufacturer. Lionel charges enough for these Legacy engines that these petty things should not happen. Oh I am sure we can play the QC statistics game. I have seen that to. But the quickest way Lionel can be out of business is poor QC.

Just noticed this topic.
Aux 2 on the CAB-1 or CAB-2 turns the backup light on or off, toggles it, on the Legacy Big Boy and many many other TMCC engines. Just address the engine and start it up and put it in reverse and press AUX 2 and it might come on. Make sure it's in reverse. I've been bit by this a couple of times and then remember, OH yse.
