Well, I HAD 3 topics on this subject that had GREAT info on this topic from this board saved up. But now I get a error message, and they are now lost in the cyber world. Seems this board could use larger storage so that they don't get lost forever. If I save a topic, I should have it for life!! I'm a little P.O.ed about this now as it shouldn't happen. Maybe a Mod will help, but doubt it. Then again, I could be wrong.

Try checking a local Ham Radio store. The one you need is for the 27MHz range.

Steve,
Email me (its in profile). I have a MSWord file saved on the computer with the directions and pictures to change out the antenna with a BNC rubber stub antenna. David |

Hi David,
I read your post about the rubber antenna for the Cab 1. Could you email me the file of info? I tried to email you, but the address doesn't work. Thanks, Jack Bartman |

Nobody?
Three main steps to doing this. First is finding the antenna. This is a moving target. At the moment your best shot is doing a search on eBay for "(26,CB) BNC rubber antenna" (do not include the "") and see what you like. Make sure to read the description and see that the frequency is around 26 MHz. Second step is finding the BNC connector. I bought all mine from Radio Shack, but a search on their website tripped up nothing. Again, next best shot is the bay, try "BNC solder". It should look like this: Next step is installing the BNC connector. Its been some four years since I did it, but I will try with words for now, maybe pictures later. You remove the six screws from the back of the CAB-1, keep track of where they went, two are either shorter or longer than the others. Then, I think, you unsolder the wire to the antenna. Then you unscrew the screw for the antenna. Then you have to enlarge the hole. I used a tapered reamer, at one time available at Sears, to to do it. The trick is getting the hole just big enough. Then tin the center pin of the BNC, but leave the whole open; a little tricky. Then install the BNC, with the solder cup pointing up. Then solder the wire to that center pin. Then screw the CAB-1 back up and install the antenna. Here's a picture meant for something else showing all my CAB-1's. Michael ![]() ![]() |
