Good morning! New to this board and have lots of questions. I'll only present a few at a time.

So.....I have a layout equipped with Fastrak and TMCC I. I found an engine with Legacy that I would like to add to the fleet. What can I expect for operation? Will it respond similar to my other TMCC equipped engines? Would I be smart to invest in Legacy to get the full features?

George

I believe that it will respond to TMCC (I have not tried it); however, if you have a Legacy engine (or are purchasing one) Legacy is so much better than TMCC you will find your enjoyment much greater with the Legacy system that a purchase would be warrented in my opinion. Almost forgot. Welcome to the forum. edit: I forgot. I ran the Big Boy with TMCC for a about 2 weeks before I got Legacy. The difficulty for me is the limitation of only 31/32 speed steps with TMCC with 200 available with Legacy. When combined with the numeric display of speed and the ability to simulate the DCS "ALL" command got me to purchase 3 more Legacy engines and a 2nd Legacy controller.

You will get the basic TMCC functions, but miss out on all the really cool Legacy features. You may want to really consider purchasing Legacy next, because most people report that TMCC engines run better under Legacy.

Check out my FAQ below for more Legacy Information

And welcome to the forum

Welcome to the forum George. I agree with Chris, I'd seriously think about getting Legacy. It will give you a whole new dimension. I started with TMCC and then purchased the Legacy system. Not sure I'll even purchase any additions engines that are not Legacy. I'm actually thinking about putting my TMCC command base back inline so that I can utilize the handheld remotes that I have for many of the accessories, etc. that I have.

Everone have a nice day.

Ken.

The tmcc cab 1 will do well if you can't afford to get the legacy control right away. The cab 1 will do everything you do with tmcc but no more.
If you can afford it I would get the legacy right away.

Thanks everyone for the information. I suspect that I will invest in Legacy control to get the most out of my investment.

I have the "new" ZW and 4 "bricks". Now I am able to control my TMCC engines and my conventional Lionel together on seperate insulated loops. One track is under full voltage for the TMCC, the other track is variable voltage to run the "old" Lionel. Am I able to do that with the Legacy system?

Thanks! George

Let me clarify my statement about the tracks. Obviously, you can choose to have either track controlled to run TMCC or conventional, or both TMCC or both conventional. I guess that's about as clear as mud!

I am a bit unclear on your question, however you should be able to do anything on Legacy that you can do with TMCC.

That said there were some issues with the ZW and Legacy, I do not have a modern ZW so I cannot address those. You may want to read back a few pages and see what is there

Legacy engines give one a selection of either 32 or 100 speed steps under TMCC operation. To select 100 speed steps, no momentum, press "M". To select 100 speed steps, with momentum, press "H". To select 32 speed steps, no (or low) momentum, press "L". I've run my BigBoy and 3 different Legacy diesels with the 100 steps with momentum ("H") setting, and it is a definite improvement as far as control is concerned, but certainly not as neat as using the Legacy system to control the engines.
