I have my locos loaded in as CONTROL | TMCC. But all I get is the number key pad when I address the locomotive. I don't get the cute little icons that tell you what everything does. Like the Smoke ON and OFF, etc. How do you get icons in TMCC mode?

It would be a bummer if I have to remember the AUX1 number commands from the old CAB-1.

Jim,

You need to go into the info tab and change the setup from Cab-1 to TMCC. It sounds like maybe it didnt stick or similar. Or the Engine number changed?

Di dyou set it up using the generic memory modules?

Yes, I loaded the generic diesel module.

When I configure it for "Control TMCC" I do get icons. But I don't get the SMOKE icons. In the #8 and #9 position I have a (-) and a (+).

That is correct Jim. I believe Legacy engines have these Icons but TMCC have the + and _.

Jim,

Look at page 30 in the manual, it will show you what icons to expect in TMCC mode. Then on page 63 it ID's then, It refers to the + and - as the Master Plus and Master Minus. Doesn't really tell what they do in regards to smoke, but I guess it makes sense

Depends... If they are orange that come with Legacy they are engine specific. The gray ones work with either TMCC1 Steam or TMCC Diesel. You use the gray one over again to set up the Legacy remote to operate TMCC1 engines in a more Legacy friendly environment. Every time you add another TMCC1 engine you will use the gray modules over again. They setup the basics, it's up to you to name and number them.

Another + - question for smoke under Legacy. Are there staged steps like Low Medium High? Is there a difference in pressing the + three times as opposed to 6 times?

On Legacy engines there are 4 levels of smoke. Off/Low/Med/High. Pushing the smoke indicator will more will not give you anymore smoke than is what preset on the High setting. On TMCC1 there are only 3 levels. Off/normal/and boost. Pushing the plus would be like pushing 9 on the cab1 and would "boost" the output.

Marty,
Never had a Cab1 so not sure what 9 means. But in terms of Legacy one push of + gets me to normal from an off position. Another push of + gets me to boost. Is boost permanent like normal, meaning it is now in boost mode or is it temporary and to boost again you need to push the + again? Did I confuse the **** out you? lol

Boost is a temporary state on TMCC1 locos. As long as you hold the + the boost will be active. It is not recommended to do this for more than 10 seconds.

On my TMCC locos I see the + and - and use them for the smoke. One thing is you step up using + and step down using - until you see the smoke shut off. On Legacy it says OFF which is nicer but both work perfectly...

Bill, only if you startup with the aux1 button. If you start a Legacy engine with the startup icon, it will start in smoke mode regardless of whether it was off at the end of the last session.
