Apologies if this has been covered. I've been away from O for a while...
Will Legacy work on 2-rail and will Lionel be offering upgrade kits that can be used to install into 2-rail engines? I see some guys are using DCS upgrade kits to convert Atlas 2-Rail engines. Can this be done with Legacy? I'd rather have Legacy than DCS. Thanks! |

It should work, but there are no Legacy kits out there yet so no way of knowing for sure.
Since it's unlikely that there will be a generic Legacy kit anytime soon, you may just want to install a TMCC kit and use it with the Legacy system. TMCC works real well with Legacy -Chris TCA 02-54187 Well I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison And I went to pick her up in the rain But before I could get to the station in a pickup truck She got run'd over by a damned old train |

Legacy works very well with TMCC-equipped Lionel American Flyer engines, which (of course) run on AC and are 2-rail.

Thanks guys.
I hadn't thought of just upgrading to TMCC. At one point I was going to go DCC only because Atlas switched from TMCc to DCC. But then I used it on my HO switching layout and I realized how much more complicated it is! Yuk. I am an IT professional by trade, but I want my trains to be relaxing and easy to use... TMCC (and I assume Legacy) is so simple. I suppose that one of the only drawbacks would be that you wouldn't have the "playable" whistle huh. Isn't Lionel supposed to release upgrade kits eventually? I thought I read that somewhere over the past few years. So AF runs good huh? Question... Were the Atlas O TMCC engines DC or AC? I don't remember. |
