Can you use 2 cab controls with a single control unit? If so what are the dangers is any?

Yep. That is not a problem. Only issue is train stealing! BTW if you are using Cab1 and Legacy remotes on the same layout, Lionel recommends that you do not share engine control between Cab1s and Legacy remotes to keep the Legacy remote in sync with the base.
