I'd like to send a big "Thanks!" to Mike Reagan at Lionel Ohio.

Since my daughter, Michelle, used to work for him when he ran TAS, I had his cell phone number, so I gave him a call on my way home from work tonight (about 5:00 pm). I asked him if I might be able to hand-deliver my Legacy base and remote to him sometime soon for the version 1.2 upgrade. He said "bring it in now!"; this was music to my ears!

A quick side trip down the street, and after about a 10 minute procedure, my Legacy base and remote was upgraded.....I didn't even lose any of my stored engines! Mike also bagged up my two, new V1.2 blue modules, and the latest, hard-copy Legacy manual.

I quickly went home and re-installed the base on my layout. After a 20 minute or so operating session, all went very well! Good signal strength, no base losses, crisp response to commands, etc.. I will put more operating time in with it over the 3 day weekend and keep everyone here posted on my progress.

BTW, Mike said he doesn't have any problems with anyone wanting their Legacy system upgraded via hand delivery, during normal weekday business hours at his new Canfield location. The best part: he will do this for you while you wait!

This is really a great offer, as Mike will probably be pretty busy as more units arrive for upgrade via UPS, USPS, FedEx, etc.. Doing good things like this for customers is what Mike Reagan is all about!

P.S. Thank you, Lionel, for hiring Mike, and for letting him make this offer available to your customers.

Tony

Good news. Another forum member offered to take mine up with his next week before I get home. Looks like I'll have it back before I get home too! Customer service seems to be Job 1.

I have a question. Do you have to load the 1.2 blue chip when you get the Legacy back? Is the blue chip just in case something goes wrong?

The new V1.2 blue chips are for reloading the base and remote if any issues arise down the road. Once Mike does the V1.2 upgrade to your Legacy system, it is ready to go!

Glad to hear some of forum members live so close that you can hand-carry your Legacy to "Mike's Place". I would do it myself but I would have to rob a bank to pay for the gas to get there...... I also am glad Lionel hired Mike...the organization involved in this upgrade/send in project is very impressive....a hard copy of manual also......gee....someone is listening to us. Well I just have to wait to get my Legacy back and keep plugging away on my layout projects.......hope time will pass quickly.

Should I return my Remote with the existing chip?

The Return Authorization doesn't specify.

Return the base and remote only. They will give you new modules.

I had a little more run time with my upgraded Legacy system tonight. All is still running well.

I built a few lashups. I ran my only Legacy engine, the soon-to-be-mated NS SD40-2 (finally found the dummy at The Train Shop in San Dimas, CA; it'll be here next week). I fired up my EOB-equipped RK Challenger. My K-Line NYC Shay and my Lionel WSL Shay saw some action, however, they struggled in a lashup (the K-Line Shay has K-Line cruise, the Lionel Shay needs a drop-in EOB!).

Tomorrow, I will try to checkout DCS to TMCC/Legacy operation.

I talked to Mike briefly today. He was busy at Lionel Ohio keeping ahead of the rush of packages due there next week. (I hope he gets to enjoy some of this nice holiday weekend; it was really pleasant here in NE Ohio today).

TONY,
Thanks for the update on Legacy 1.2. Did you have any issues with speed graph loss when toggling back and forth between engines. That was the only thing that was frustrating to me with my Legacy unit everything else worked well for me. I sent mine out on Tuesday via USPS, hope to get it back soon. I still have Cab1 and played with that last nite.

I didn't think I would miss my Legacy so soon. I'm having withdrawl symptoms. I thought I could just work on layout projects and not miss my trains run...boy was I wrong....especially after Marty's visit and my Texas Special F3 ran so much smoooooooooooother. I would run my trains and work on some portion of the layout at the same time......the sounds, the rumble the rev's.....please hurry back. Frown

no problem with that at all and also the scroll button toggles the speed display under the engine number.

I had another hour of successfully operating the layout tonight. I also had a friend's Legacy NYC Sharks operating alongside my Legacy NS SD40-2; here is what I found:

Switching between both Legacy pieces on the CAB-2 caused ZERO speed graph issues.

All commands I sent with the CAB-2 appeared to reach their engines with no problems.

No issues to report with losing the base, as it didn't happen.

No problems with using my DCS remote to send standard TMCC commands through the Legacy base to the Sharks with them labeled as TMCC Engine 1.

No blank outs of the remote to report either, though this may have been a battery charging and securing-them-in-the-remote issue I originally had.

Got my base and Cab-2's back today. WOW! I haven't really got a chance to wring it out, but I noticed right away the blinking handheld stopped blinking. Maybe its me, but it seems reception is better.
I like the "always on" feature of the screen, along with the one hour sleep mode.
I'll mess around more as the week progresses and actually try the more advanced stuff. Thanks for the great service, Lionel!

Mine arrived on the 7th .... I have to be honest here ... running trains in conventional mode is not as fun .... I still like running conventional but the last 6 months with Legacy has definitely been an eye opening experience in the command control world.

Got mine back today. Out of curiosity I checked the UPS tracking numbers. I shipped it last Wednesday, it arrived in Ohio at 10:40 AM Monday (signed for by "Reagan") and it was shipped Monday at 5:07 PM. Mike and his team are doing a great job turning these things around. Thanks Mike.

Now were's my E6? Charlie?

MARTY,
Hooked up LEGACY and ran trains for about 20 minutes yesterday. NO PROBLEMS with the Legacy. No speed gragh problems, no loss of base problems. Just good ol Legacy control. Better control then the CAB1 and I can see the back lite all the time if I want it on. I toggled back and forth lots of times and no loss of graph. Today I will let engines run for about 30 minutes and toggle again to see if anything goes array.
