Ok guys help me out with this.

I have two individual loops. Outside loop has a tpc-300 addresed as TR-1, I run command mode on this loop. The inside loop has a powermaster addresed as TR-2. I use the TR-2 loop to run my postwar by remote control. My main power is a Lionel postwar ZW.

Now for the question. When switching from TR-1 to TR-2 on the remote no problem. When I go from TR-2 back to TR-1, TR-1 loop goes into conventional mode for some reason. It should stay in command mode. Am I my missing something here ?

Thanks,
Chris

You should try running your postwar on the TPC as it has more speed steps available 80-200-400 with the use of the L-M-H buttons on your cab-1.

Regardless with your set-up, the TPC should be set up in command mode if you primarily running TMCC on it. Make sure you initially set that TPC to command by pressing TR-1, L button, then the set button with the power on. The TPC will do a slow blink and go to a fast blink when you are operating your command engine with it. The slow blink indicates it is in command mode. When you address the TPC with TR-1, then press boost for full power. Also, you can set your TPC in conventional mode by setting it with the M button and still operate your TMCC engine. You will be dialing up the power once you address the TPC with your cab-1 dial or use Aux-1-8 for 30% power or Aux-1-9 for 100% power.

With the powermaster, depending on which version you have, the newer ones have the 135-180 slide switch. Anyway, make sure the command/conventional switch is in conventional mode.

Chris,
Keep me posted. As for changing the TPC operation modes, once you press the L or M buttons, hit the set button on your cab-1 so it saves it the next time you turn the power onto it. If you only press the L or M button without pressing the set button, the next time you apply power to the TPC, it automatically reverts to the command mode. That is explained in the instruction booklet.

Nice explination Ted. I am running double loops also and it took me awhile to get the hand of my TPC400...all the time forgetting to press "set" after initiating my L or M.

This is another good example in which a DVD showing and explaining the various functions of a Lionel electronic unit would really help.

Well I've tried the suggestions with no luck. So now for the heck of it I figured I'd try TMCC engines on the outside & inside loops.
I switch the powermaster into command mode, set up the outer loop with the tpc on it, TR-1, L, Set. Then TR-1, boost. Track comes up engine runs. Set up inner loop with the powermaster. TR-2, L, Set. TR-2, boost. Track comes up engine runs.
Now, if I try to switch between tracks TR-1 & TR-2 on the remote I lose TMCC signal to both tracks.

The only thing I can figure is I must have a crossed wire somewhere. I should be able to switch between tracks with no problem.
