Phil,
What is your startup procedure for the lashup and/or individual engines? Greg, "Just run your trains!" JRYT Club |

Gregg:
I press the engine's number and immediately blow the horn before getting the loco moving. Same for the lashup. Shutdown is AUX1,5. Phil |

Look at Page 17 of your Lionel Instruction Manuals note#5

Louisiana SP Thanks for reply. I missed that in the instruction book. I will try and be more alert to shutting down the smoke and engine separately as a matter of habit. But I think it comes on on its own sometimes. In fact a Lionel tech confirmed hearing about this from others when I spoke with him last week. I will let you know what happens. Phil

Phil, I have a pre Legacy steam loco, with odyssey and RS 5, that has a similar smoke unit behavior. Aggravating.

The smoke units come on when you hit the little circle/start button on the legacy remote. I now start my locos by hitting the Aux 1 button and the smoke unit doesn't come on. I shut down the smoke prior to shutting the engine down.

You need to shut the smoke unit down BEFORE powering the engine (or lash-up) down. Hit the smoke off button an extra time to be sure & make sure the smoke is really off.
Same goes for the headlight. Turn the headlight off if you want the engine to have only the cab light on when you power up the track. If you do not do this the engine headlight will come on when you power up the track. |

This afternoon, while I was standing several feet away I heard my SD'70's smoke unit's fan start up and smoke was soon flowing from the stack. Five minutes before I had turned on all of my transformers so TMCC and DCS were active in the room and track voltage was on. But no trains were running and I did not even have a remote in my hand. I can only assume that some stray signal in my house started the smoke flowing!!! Phil

Yep, I have the latest Sante Fe F-7's, however they are TMCC RS 5.0 and when I hit the power switch on, the dummy unit on the A-B-A lash up will start smoking. I have to addess it and shut it down before I power anything else up... frustrating but it happens...

Happens often on my NYC GP7. What is really frustrating is that if this goes un noticed (perhaps the engine is kept in a shed) the resister can be burned out. Oh well...
Is it real, or is it K-line |
