I just got my Legacy this past week. I finally got it out of the box. Looking over the quick start instructions I hooked it up. I added the ground wire coming off the base unit to the three ground wires I already had tied together for the other loops. At first when I tried it I got nothing. Before I go further I should mention that I took that Y plug because I have the original TMCC black box so I hooked that up also. The first time I tried I got no response. But I rechecked the ground wire and it was not touching the other ground wires in the twist cap. Once I found that problem I followed the instructions. Well the second time around I got the engine on the track to respond or at least start up. Had the track power set to around 18 to 19 volts. Upon startup of the engine I noticed the lights in the cab were flickering which they didn't do before. I tried to start the engine down the track and the sounds were on but turning the red knob I could not get it to speed up. Also there was no speed diagram showing either.I was however getting a flickering red light when I was turning the red knob. The engine is a Lionel SD-40 with Oddessy not legacy. But prior to setting up legacy everything was working good. Am I over looking something. I hope I have explained what I am experiancing. Any help to get up and running is greatly appreciated ................Thanks Paul

It is not clear that you removed the ground wire from the original Command Base. You must have only one control unit sending commands down the rail. The Y connector allows the old Command Base to send digital commands to the Legacy box, but only the Legacy box transmits commands to the track.

Dale, after reading your response I went and looked everything over again. The black box says base on it and I have a ground wire going to that along with the Y plug connected to it.Also I have the grey box with a power wire and a ground wire going to that. On the side of the grey box there is a switch that slides from command to coventional. But if I disconnect the ground wire going to the TMCC black base that should eliminate my problem..................Paul

After taking that ground wire off the TMCC base I was able to get the engine going. That's as far as I got so far. The red know is more sensitive then my old cab-1. But I still didn't have a display for speed. When I scrolling through the different screens one said can't locate base or something like that. So much for quick start-up. Going to have to read and try to understand the whole manual. .................Thanks Paul

I didn't notice whether you'd set up a Legacy profile for your engine. If not, I suspect you're running in CAB-1 mode which doesn't have the speed profile.

Thanks for the help so far with legacy. After disconnecting the ground wire to the TMCC black base I was able to run an engine. I have sort of read the manual but found no trouble shooting page. As it stands right now I have learned the cab 2 is a cab one because I have no legacy engines. I must of overlooked something in the manual though. While running a couple of engines I wanted to reverse them but could not figure where on the cab 2 to do it. What I have had to do so far was use my old cab 1 direction button to reverse the engines.........Again any help will be greatly appreciated............Paul

Paul, You may want to look at my FAQ (Link below) it talks about the direction reversing.
Also realize there are 3 modes on the Legacy controller, Cab-1, TMCC and Legacy. Most modern Lionel engines that are not Legacy run under TMCC. The Cab-1 mode is mostly for compatibility with older engines and non-Lionel products -Chris TCA 02-54187 Well I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison And I went to pick her up in the rain But before I could get to the station in a pickup truck She got run'd over by a damned old train |

You can set up your non-Legacy TMCC engines in Legacy using the generic Steam and diesel modules that came with your Legacy base. I agree with you--time to study the manual a bit more. Carl Heinz |

Paul, on the CAB 2, push straight down on the "Boost/Brake" while your engine is stopped to reverse its direction. You can also the "Velocity Throttle" (red knob) to do this too. This for me, takes a little more practice but it does work doing it this way. Good luck.
