We have some people coming over today and I was going to run a legacy loco around but I get no response from the remote. I have tried the original set of batteries and put that on the charger to hopefully charge the batteries. What happens now is that it flashes red on the base, which according to the manual seems to mean a battery voltage problem? Anyway, I take those out and put some know good batteries in and it still doesn't power up. The base seems to work fine.

Any ideas to help me get this running over the weekend before I give Lionel a call next week? Everything worked fine before sending it back for the 1.2 upgrade.

Thanks!

Scott

NJ,
Try a reprogram with the 2 chips they sent you might work? And also is your switch set right for the batteries, on the base? Hope these ideas help?

nj: mine came back and have the same problem, I set the base up, charged the batteries in the Cab-2 and when I hit the CTC, the display went right to an engine. but nothing worked. Shut down restarted and the display went DEAD. Ck batteries and tried fresh regular batteries no go. So,the box is repacked and ready to go back to Lionel-Ohio. I used the same RA # and inserted a letter with the sequence of my problem. Figured if I call Lionel service I'll probably be told to send it back anyhow.David

You better call Lionel and get a new RA. It will save you a lot of grief. Lionel has probably listed that RA as complete.

Before I sent it back to Lionel I would do several things. 1st assume batteries are fine or not but install new AA Alkalines in for now. Set the charger to off if you dock your remote by habit. I use Alk's all the time and I get a month of use or more from them and more range from the base...

2. Check to see what channel the units are on. OR Do a channel scan for base if you did not try this already. If you did move on to item 3.

3. Install the remote Ver 1.2 chip into the remote. You have nothing to loose and everything to gain. After it says it is done do a scan again if it does not seem to work. I don't remember by memory the reload procedure but it should be in the book or here in this BB section. See if it helps.

4. As a last resort I would go for a base tuneup with it's ver 1.2 new chip. There is a specific sequence to do to get it programed right. After I read the reprogramming instructions posted here it worked perfectly and has to this day.

I have several hours on my un-updated Legacy this weekend. I won't hurry sending it back I guess. Take Care...

Mine does that too but it seems to be working OK. Those who have had the upgrade what is on the display when you first power up?

It seems to default to ENG on start-up for me also, so, silly me, I am standing there addressing an engine when I need to actually switch it to TR and power up the TPC400 for track power...I just need to get in the habit of switching over I guess, or re-program the TPC as an engine. - dischler

It goes to the initial screen with the name of my railroad and what version is in my base/remote-1.2. When I press eng or tr, it goes to that.

If the remote is in the sleep state, then the CTC button will simply wake-up the remote - I believe to the ENG screen.

I start up legacy by hitting the CTC button, the first screen I see is a title page which after a few seconds changes to a screen showing the last engine to be operated on the railroad. The numeric keypad with the start up key for that engine appears as well.

I think thats the way its supposed to work.
