We bought Percy for my son at x-mas. It was a huge hit and we have had lots of fun. Been trying to get cleaned up so we can lay down a small layout at home for all of us to enjoy. I have two engine's (Percy and a 2-8-8-2 Mikes) that are not command.

I would like to be able to use command where possible. I know the 2-8-8-2 can be converted, but can percy be converted to TMCC.

I have heard no, but would be willing to modify under his roof pannel to get a tmmc controller in there.

I am in no hurry at this time just looking for suggestions.

I used a Electric RR beep commander in a Percy! It has to be the last release around 2005, as the previous one has no room. I bought a 2nd one from a forum member which turned out to be the older release, and it will be staying conventional.

In order to make the board fix you will have to cut out plastic around the cab.

Now we have Thomas, James, Percy & Diesel all running TMCC around the kid layout. I'm going to take a pass on Arry & Bert, since they are nothing more than Diesel with a different paint job...

How can I tell what model I have?

Here is the information of Percy.
The only thing I can see is a copyright of 2005. All the electrics see to be under the top cover.

Anything I can do?

Where you able to keep Percy's Whistle? after the conversion.

Sounds like you have the newer Percy, I have the early one and there is no whistle on it.

And I went to pick her up in the rain
But before I could get to the station in a pickup truck
She got run'd over by a damned old train

Fastcon68,

Yes the 2005 version is the new one. Another way to tell is the older model has traction tires, where the new one has Magnatraction. (I added traction tires to mine since the magnatraction doesn't do much on Atlas Nickel track.)

Yes you are able to keep the whistle, however you may need to put a cap on the sound to keep the whistle from sticking. Jon at Electric RR provided the workaround for the sticking whistle.

A couple of months ago, I called ElectricRR looking to do the sames thing with "James". To my surprise, the transfered my call to Jon Z. After a 5-8 minute discussion, he told me that there is an option that would require some modifications to the engine, but should work....

I would need to use the "Mini Commander HC" and special order it with "Engine Software". Evidently they can load the software into the Mini Commander for an engine rather that an accessory.

Give Electric RR a call and I am sure they can help you find a solution and they are willing to take the time to talk to you.
