ALEXANDER'S FAMILY RESTAURANT
840 Carlisle Rd ● York, PA 17404 ● Telephone (717) 846-1041
One block from Fairgrounds rear entrance ● Downstairs banquet room (ask for Paula).

ALL ARE WELCOME!

TENTATIVE AGENDA:

The Lionel Legacy Users’ Group Meeting is not associated with Lionel Trains in any way other than sharing the enjoyment and trading information related to operating the Lionel Legacy System.

Introductions

• Must use time wisely as we have a lot to cover in 2 hours

• Reminder that each individual is responsible to order and pay Paula and her hard-working staff for breakfast (plus a generous tip if you were happy with the service).

QUESTIONS FOR LIONEL (Lionel's Mike Reagan and perhaps others will be on hand again):

1. Status of next Legacy update?

2. Which issues next update will and won’t be addressed?

3. Status of battery charging issues?

4. Planned new features to be available in Vision Line products that you can announce?

5. Anything you can now tell us about the black Legacy modules project?

6. Status of “TrainLink” function and/or ability to store 5 engines into the 5 keys under the display for one-touch addressing?

7. Status of addressing more than 99 engines?

8. Status of fix for the wheel flange problem?

9. Status of fix for the random electro-coupler firing problem?

10. TPC shutting down when running pulmor motor engines?

WE WILL HAVE A SMALL TRACK SET UP TO DEMO THE SYSTEM USING LIONEL LEGACY LOCOMOTIVES.

PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU WILL BE COMING SO WE CAN GET AN ESTIMATED HEADCOUNT.

POST HERE WITH YOUR SUGGESTIONS FOR LIONEL LEGACY ISSUES AND QUESTIONS YOU'D LIKE COVERED.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Well I for one am looking forward to this Fall's meeting. Please try to wear your TCA badge to help those with name memory syndrome (myself included) from knowing who we all are. Also if you have any suggestions, time available, we can certainly add it in.

First, I'll miss seeing you at York in October!

Second, you need to sit down, think and re-prioritize your life. Giving up trains for your daughter's wedding is unthinkable. You need some help, man.

Hi Will,

Please consider adding a Question for Lionel about the "Red Light On" on the CAB-2.

We have Legacy on our Tinplate Trackers of Austin Texas large modular club layout and I have Legacy on my 17 ft X 32 ft home layout. In both situations we are intermittently getting the "blinking red light" while holding the CAB-2 in close proximity to the Legacy Base. And of course the red light stays on even more often as we reach the expected range limits of the wireless link.

We have tested with and without our Hawking HSB2's and after changing base frequencies and putting in fresh, charged batteries. Nothing seems to help. Both systems work just okay. But, we experience periodic and temporary slow response to no response when the CAB-2 Red light is cycling on and off.

I've read the postings and it sounds like the red light indicates one or both of two conditions: (1) Base Out of Range or (2) Base in Range but Corrupted Packet.

I would find it extremely valuable to have Mike Reagan at Lionel clearly explain what the "Red Light On" means, and then if as expected this is a malfunction, what the Lionel fix is. I'm hesitant to send one or both Legacy Bases back to Lionel until I gain a clear understanding from Lionel as to how to proceed.

Finally, I'll most likely be at the breakfast. Am finalizing my plans and will let you know when they are set.

Thanks
Bill

Hi Again Will,

To correct my terminology, it's the "Radio Link Warning Light" covered on page 63 of the Legacy v1.2 Instruction Manual.

The question for Mike Reagan is "Please explain what conditions cause the Radio Link Warning Light to come on". Are the two reasons givin in the manual REALLY the only reasons or is something else going on? Like maybe a problem with the Legacy Base or a software/firmware glitch? What is the fix if a problem is acknowledged.

The manual gives two reasons; "out of range" or if the Radio Link Warning Light flashes at close range it indicates that the "channel is poor."

Thanks again,
Bill

Bill (Austin Bill),

Thanks very much for your question. We will add it to the agenda.

Mike might not be able to answer it, and Jon, who probably can answer it, will not be at York in October, so worst case Mike will take it back to Lionel for a better answer. But this is speculation on my part, so we'll put it to Mike and see if he knows.

Thank you again,

Will

Folks,

I am repeating here yesterday's post by Jon Zahornacky, Lionel CTO (aka Santa Fe Fan on the Forum), regarding Legacy Cab-2 range issues:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted September 27, 2009 01:36 AM

Folks,

I have tried to keep the forumites updated on progress with the Cab-2 and range concerns at regular intervals. I will recap the current status. We have been trying several concepts to address the range. Most of these concepts trade off the increased range by slowing down the data rate and adding additional error correction information in the packets. We have not settled on the final approach to resolving this concern, however we have seen an improvement in house and at several test sites.

The 2.4 GHz spectrum is very crowded; and the hardware has limits. I wish these limits did not exist, however they do exist. I find it interesting that after replacements of the Legacy system, some folks are seeing an improvement. The questions that come to mind are: the channel setting, battery state, etc, that could be responsible for the improvement. Please understand, there are no hardware or software changes on the replacements from Consumer Services.

Folks know my commitment to this hobby, and I will keep everyone informed of any progress worth reporting. We can, and will, bring you a preview of the new features at the Legacy Users Group meeting at October York. Feedback is appreciated, and just note the date for any official release is unknown as of today.

I ask your patience, and rest assured that when any improvements are fully ready we will get them to everyone. My goal is this year, however quality is priority one.

jon
CTO, Lionel LLC

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Looking forward to seeing everyone at York!

Will,

After looking at the new catalog, could you add a new (or old one again) to your list of questions for Lionel, "why can't you offer the Cab 2 alone without the charger base?"

Probably like many, I don't use the charging feature of the base, so it is redundant and thus expensive.

Hey folks. Getting ready for Friday. I have some agendas printed (will also post a link on my site for a document if you want to print it out before hand) and I am getting the Legacy gear together. I'm hoping to have some extra things at the demo this year for folks to play with if I can get them worked in. We'll have 2 remotes on hand. A diesel and steamer as well to play with on the small loop.

Some folks mentioned to Will at the end of last years meeting that they would like some more informal interaction so I'll leave the layout up until everyone takes off or until 10am. I have no pressing commitments at the show. Anyone need to see a TMCC1 engine run I can bring one of those too.
