Here's an interesting little web page with information on early rail lines in Eastern Ontario. The B&P-Bytown & Prescott, is the rail line that traveled by our farm; of course it had long since been called that. It was a CPR line then (1960's). The rail line actually bi-sected our old property. There are pics of a couple of great looking old steam engines that served on that line. I am interested in maybe getting a model and customizing it, with the Bytown & Prescott name. http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&tab=wl If this works... Okay, on the map, it is the area of Eastern Ontario from the St. Lawrence R at Brockville/Prescott area and then north up to Ottawa. I guess it helps if you know what you're looking for, but enterprising people should find Spencerville, Oxford Stn, Bedell and then you can see the old railroad bed. When I was a kid, the trains ran from Bedell Stn. down by our farm (going south) to Oxford Stn and on to Spencerville, Prescott etc... Our farm was on the McGovern Rd and our property backed up pretty much to Oxford Stn. The old roadbed is still clearly visible in the satellite pics. I haven't read all the other links in there, but they look interesting. |
