He'd have this as his switcher.
It's a General Motors product from 1959 or 1960 It's the only one in existance. Very Spaced-out! Brian Briggs |

Since George Jetson premiered on ABC in 1962, he would probably have one.

Looks like it's switching out Spacely Sprockets
Paul ...Talk about her traveling, she's the fastest train on the line... |

Looks like an Aerotrain/Turbotrain hood
married to a German/Swiss switcher loco and cab. Wonder who the real customer was? Do you know what kind of powerplant is in it? GM/Detroit Diesel perhaps? GREAT picture! Hope is gets preserved. Starting to look "long in the tooth". |

Let's not forget the GMDH-3's big brother, the double-ended, center cab GMDH-1:

That's amazing! The 1001 is STILL in GM Demonstrator
colors! Interesting "critters". |

Awesome photos (all). Lowery design? Seems influence of 50s auto tailfins.
If Jetson owned a RR it would be the Shanghai hi-speed monorail |

These fine photos make me believe that GM's design chief must have been inspired by the Edsel, and the timing is dead-on with the Edsel too !!!

That hydralic switcher I can do without but give me a model of that big brother anyday!

Now that there is some WOW factor. MTH needs to get on that 1001..like yesterday. Nice and interesting stuff, fellas.
Wuz yore switcher ever bit by a '58 Olds? Ed |

According to Wikipedia, it was operable as of 2006.
Here's a photo of the center-cab demonstrator in better days: Here's a photo of GMDH-3 in better times: The lokes were apparently built by GM Canada I suspect the switcher could easily be built onto an old Atlas Plymouth chassis for those interested. A GMDH-1 spent time in New Jersey working for Raritan River Steel in Perth Amboy during the early 80's. I believe there were approximately four GMDH-1's constructed.
Does anyone remember the Romanian "Quarterhorse" which toured the U.S.? The unit eventually joined Washington Terminal's roster. Bob |

BTW ... Where is this loco today? Where did
you take those pictures at? Looks like maybe a small tourist RR or shortline. Nice looking location. |

ChesBchRy,
It's in Clinton, MI. On the tourist line 'Southern Michigan'. They run weekend excursions (not with the GMDH-3 though). Brian B. |

A couple years ago the Ohio Central RR was storing what might have been the Quarter Horse just south of its shop area. Where its steam loco deadline was. It was a very modern looking unit, decidedly European, with a Mercedes Benz diesel engine.
Maybe Rich can give us an update on this piece of equipment. Tony |
