Here are some more photos from my St. Louis trip. A special tour of the DeSoto car shops of the Union Pacific.

Our tour guide, briefing the NRHS group on safety and the history of the one-time Missouri Pacific RR shops.

The sign over the entrance to the car shops. LOL, it looked clearer in the camera viewfinder , I swear!

This is a roller worthy of making a Steam Engine's boiler. Not sure what it is used for currently, but it is impressive. Much of the car work lately has been in rebuilding wrecked auto carriers. While car shipping business is down, it's time to get ready for the next rush of cars, and the RR Cars to carry them.

Leased locomotives conduct switching duties in this slow economy. UP has yet to rebound, and hundreds of locos are stored out in the West waiting their call back to work.

This is literally a museum of car movers, including Trackmobiles, forklifts and assorted front-end loaders.

We got to walk across the transfer table, a new addition put in to make room for extra-long cars. Switches used to move cars from one building to another, but Auto-Racks were getting damaged on the tight curves. From this point the tour took us to the paint booths, where I didn't get any good photos. This tour was on Oct. 23.

Now, let's see your photos from near or far.

Nice shop tour pics.

Nothing special here...just L415 waiting to get the limited clear after Amtrak showed up.

Two of the most recent aquisitions.

Leslie R-S5T-RRO in rare CSX Pumpkin paint, probably the only one preserved.

Leslie S-5T. Looks to be a 1958-1960 S-5T with aluminum "tab" backs. No tag, and the date stamp was mauled in a vice. This is either an ex N&W horn or former Western Maryland horn.
