I'm thinking this might be especially useful if the vehicle is far from a road where a 3-point turn on rubber wheels might be made.

If tracks were public conveyances like roads, we could all have these on our cars Big Grin

Yes lots of MOW equipment all have there own turntables.

here is a photo of me spinning my ballast tamper. It only wieghts 36,000 pounds and I can turn it by myself. The turntables did two things it would allow me to turnaround and go back riding normal. Secondly and more important it would allow me to set the machine off on a perpendicular set of temporary rails and get out of the way and allow a train to pass. Speeders would set off and be rolled into there sheds via a set of perminate rails built into the structure floor. This is still faster than the modern High Rails setting on and off.

Or you can do it the old fashon way and break our back as displayed here with a heavy old Shefield car.Wheelbarrel style.

the speeder in your last photo reminds me of what State Railway of Thailand use for MOW work
