Sorry, your link above, came up "page not found". At any rate, it is my understanding that this "crash" was with a "light rail" commuter train and a vehicle, not a standard railroad train.

Two diffent transit agencies; Metro Rail runs between LA, Orange, Riverside, San Bernadidno and Ventura Counties. LA Metro is a bus and light rail system in LA County. Metro, the light rail system mostly runs in dedicated right of way except for the old PE loop thru Long Beach and a section in LA, where this accident occured. A mechanic test driving a bus turned in front of the light rail train.

Curious, the person in LA putting together the news item does know the difference between Metro Link and the Los Angeles Metropolitian Transit District, aka Metro Rail.

Must be something in the water. Today I hit a pickup truck that failed to yield at a crossing. Fortunately, the coupler hit right behind the rear wheel (driver's side) and spun him off the track. No serious injuries. Could have been much worse.

The "Train" was a Metro Blue Line Interurban consist (three articulated sets) that struck an MTA bus being driven by an MTA mechanic. Witnesses say the bus ran a red light and got clipped (this makes some sense given how everything ended up.) The Blue Line is also operated by LA County MTA and runs between Downtown Los Angeles and Long Beach along a large portion of the old Red Car (PE) Long Beach Line. The injuries were minor and the lead car did derail.

Metrolink is operated by the Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCAX) which is "governed" by members of the transit boards from Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.

Of course, everyone's freaked out because they hear "Metro" in the name and think it's another heavy commuter rail train.
