Hello.
Since I am currently building my layout, and I am modeling in a more "modern" setting, and like the idea of having differnt businesses and industries, I have been trying to find O Scale modern looking warehouses with loading doors for boxcars and buildings with loading ramps for boxcars. I am also trying to find modern looking office type buildings for other industries. Does anybody know some places to look for these type of buildings? Any help is appreciated. --------------------------------- Thanks, Grayson. (AKA Magicman710 on CTT) Proud owner of the Lionel Legacy System! Its quality, not quanity! |

Grayson, old factories and warehouses are entirely appropriate on any modern era layout. Normally, you'll find a mix in any industrial area.

I had similar challenges in finding signature skyscapers for my Chicago South Loop project. You may find it less frustrating just building what you need from scratch. It really isn't all that hard with the right supplies, & it's so much more satisfing that just wiping out a credit card.

Try Pecos River Brass, they have O scale modular buildings that look fairly modern, and are very versatile. I have one built on my layout, and plenty more in boxes. Here's a pic from the website:
it's a dark picture, but here is the building i made for my layout: behold! "Beecher Tool & Dye" good luck, Nick "The great northern out of cheyenne, from sea to shining sea" |

Almost all the new buildings I have seen in the last 15 years or so that have rail access have indoor docks for the cars.

Thanks for the replies. I have actually found some buidlings that I think I am interested on this website: www.mesamodels.com.
Dennis - I know that you can still find many old buidlings. Plenty of buildings that are old, say the 1930s,40s up. But, I am not reffering to them. Large brick warehouses of that era would be fine. I am reffering to the older, 1900 below structurs in the steam era such as small little freight stations, depots, and things like that. --------------------------------- Thanks, Grayson. You may want to try www.justrains.com and look under their Korber Models heading. There is a modular building system kit with 24 wall sections for $74.95 that is modern looking. I believe they are also coming out with some new items this fall.
Ertl Farm Country also has some modern corrigated buildings that might be useful to you. Look on the Eeeeek B A. or at your local John Deer or farm supply stores as they sometimes carry them. If that fails you could scratch build with Plastistruct or evergreen plastics supplies. Good Luck, Paul Goodness |

I'm using the building fronts with the docks by Chooch enterprises and building additional dock bays that match the loading door locations.
