bfishma has been naggin me to get something done that I can share with you so this is all his fault, Big Grin

Since I'm still taking a break from building anything large I took on another samll structure, but I'm still building it in just about my usualy bord by board style.

First, a simple 15' x 22' platform on top of a joists...

After that, we need some walls, so out come the 2" x 4"s and the 4" x 4"s for the two side walls, and the front and back walls....

I'll be back with more later tonight....

Looking good, Martin. But are there any small projects when you build board by board? Looking forward to the completion. Smile

Jeff - Thank you, thank you very much, Big Grin

Sasquatch - it's just like building in real life only w/o the unsightly bending, Big Grin

Thanks, Johnboy!

Vulcan - in part you are correct, but when you've let a board by board structure like that pickle plant I built take over your entire shop (and part of your life!) there's large and then there's large and then there's just ridiculous.... Just rediculous is on the horizon, BTW - parts a supplies for the "The Richmond Furnace Barrel Factory" are being assembled into a shoebox - when it gets to critical mass - it's building time!

So, with that said, here are the walls after adding the board & batten - yup, still one board at a time....inside view showing the framing and outside showing the ummmm....board & batten Big Grin

Back in a few hours - got another galley proof to read tonight!

So, moving forward, here's how it all goes together - all four walls fit together with the overlapping board & batten siding making a nice corner for the glue - actually used Goo instead of ACC or Carpenter's glue - wanted a litttle "flex" in it to position it all on the platform.

Next steps are to put the roof onto this so that it is removable for finishing up the interior and adding all the detail parts....

Anyone know what this is going to be yet other than bfishma??

Well then, moving right along, here's the roof - just sheet of scribed siding scribed side downs so that you can see the "boards" for the roof in the overhanding portion - rafters not quite on any center - more haphazard and "country", but mortised and blocked to set down on the back wall tightly and to also have the other end of the rafters arranged to set up into inside of the back of the false front wall.

Well, no, but that you mention either tells me that this is another small structure that could be morphed into whatever with the proper signage and details scattered about.

Might serve as the basis for next year's kit! I'll have to seriously consider that potential.

Ok, now that you've seen the roof, here's how it looks in place after the back of the false front wall is finished over in borad & batten - the roof slides right up under the wall for easy removal for adding the interior "stuff", Wink

Nearly done with the building - window hatches and the back door to make next...

Thanks, Vulcan!

I'm actually pretty pleased with how the roof fits into the back of that wall - after I get some "tar paper" on it, this will fit very snug, yet slide right off to get into the interior.

Hey Martin

This is really neat and thanks for posting the step by step. By the way, this would look great on my layout, even if only for awhile

And lo and behold, it did:

This is even more impressive in person. It looks just like the real thing, because, well, it's built just like the real thing. What does not show up well in the pictures is he deliberately built it without a jig, so the board spacing is a bit off. A subtle effect, but it really adds to the character of the place

By the way, I tried to convince Martin to hold a contest for the most creative use of this structure. He though that would be neat, but cooled on the idea after I suggested he offer the building itself as the prize.

I think we should have the contest anyway. I suggest a pump house for Lugubrium

John,

Thanks for letting me bring it by and visit!

As you can see the window hatches are now installed, non-fucntional hinges and propped open; back door was also built & installed.

I can't award it since I sort of need it for a contest later this year, Wink

And, why don't you show them what you transport Lugubrium in............... Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin
