...well, it's a mystery to me anyway.

When I started my machine shop, I ordered bulk wood online. The first step was the floor. I pre-stained the wood, all out of one batch. I did notice some of the sticks had different textures than others but proceeded with laying the floorboards, as that is not an issue with me. Not until after I had laid the boards did I notice there was a perfect division in the texture and color of the floorboards.
Exactly where the the track starts. Not that this is an issue or I am unhappy with it, but I am amazed how I, in-advertently, perfectly divided the two floors. Confused

Most of the times it doesn't show, but I have been seeing it since I finished the floor.

Now if I could hit those odds on the lottery! Big Grin

Vulcan.....not all wood is generally created equal, but could be from a different manufacturer. I have had good luck going to the same manuf. when additional wood is needed. My favorite...Mt. Albert, very consistant and quality is second to none.

Thanks, Rand. I'm still wondering if it was luck or if it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all. Big Grin

Richard, the wood was all from one manufacturer, one order, that's what has me befuddled. Smile

Actually I see three shade and they are all grouped together. One on the lower half, one above that and one shade in between the rails AND under the figures feet. Very odd to say the least

Gizzi, the third, darker shade between the rails was intentional, oil and grease from rolling stock, etc. Smile

Martin, where does one purchase the book of Gump? Big Grin

It is delivered unto you from on high.....

Actually, come to think about it, I think there really was a paperback collection of sayings that were published....

Almost all of the wood I use is from Kappler and they sell O scale sizes that no one else offers; generally very uniform in all ways and pretty dimensionally accurate from pack to pack as well. I've not seen staining differences of any great degree.

instead of three sheets to the wind, you inadvertently got three stains to the wood. Confused

now, if i could just figure out how to get those three sheets to match Big Grin

Too late now. Guess I'm up sheet creek. Big Grin

Martin, the floor boards (as well as the walls)are Midwest balsa. Parts of the shop are Northeastern scale lumber. I originally planned on doing it all with Northeastern wood. Went through the 2008 Walthers catalog, picked out the wood I needed, priced it. Went to the website and Northeastern's prices had jumped nearly 95%! Eek From October to July. Do gas prices affect wood??

So I made some concessions with Midwest. Smile
