I put some burnt umber acrylic paint on my Fastrack rails to weather them. I have LOTS of this available. The first section looks good as I took my time.

The second section looks splotchy.

I need to remove a little excess.

If I rub the rails lightly with some sandpaper will it hurt the perfomance of my trains?

If you have to use something abrasive don't use sand paper use a Scotch Brite Pad. I use them to clean my tubular track and have no problems and no grit left over to clean up.

Thanks - never thought of the "grit" aspect!

I know it is advised not to use sandpaper but what is the reason? I have used it in the past and beside scratching the track it seams to do a good job. The scratching is minimal and not noticable unless you feel it with your finger

The problem with sandpaper is the grit it leaves behind that can get picked up into moving parts and it's abrasive remember.
