Our daughter was awarded her masters degree in education. The ceremony was in Radio City Music Hall. She makes her father very proud!

Don,
I think it's the combination of the new camera and learning how to use the new photo-editing software I got for my new Mac computer.

When you shoot in the RAW image format, you have to go through a few steps in the editing program to produce a jpeg image for posting or publishing. I like the results from this new software.

Also, the black engines have been airbrushed lightly with a bit of a gray mist. This shows the details better than a jet black engine would.

Nice find on the water tower Jeff. You found the perfect place for it. Thanks for the signs.
Don, I'm curious as to where your old buildings go when they retire. I like the busy look you maintain.
Jim, I'm glad you are having fun with your new toys. Great images from a great layout!
Mike, I really enjoy seeing your bridges. I enjoy the whole layout as well. Your trains look great in the setting.

Thanks everyone!

Great stuff again this week, guys! I'm running behind with Father's day stuff, etc.

Made some progress on the coaling tower module, primarily landscaping.

Added the water tower build to the mix.

And the counterweights for the chute.

Also the piping from the sand drying house to the sand bin on the tower.

Thanks, Gizzi, you're too kind!

Actually, I plan to do a how-to on the Token Three Railer once the tower becomes a how- done. There's still minor little details to be worked out.
However, in the meantime I'll be glad to answer any questions I can.

Smile

A lot of amazing work being done here by you guys.
This week I am working on my Token Project, a recieving dock for Lida's Grocery.
I have never put a stick structure together before so I spent a lot of time in CAD producing prints to work to.
This is the CAD model

and these are the beginnings of the actual structure

Jeff Remy...is that a special edition "Nor-Cal" Solido taxi?

Don Klose...I love the Chevy dealership! I'm in the process of making one from a MTH Harley dealership. Got some "detail" stuff from eBay...a "bow-tie" logo from a actual Chevy for the main sign, lapel pins for "OK used cars" as well as one saying "genuine Chevrolet parts", and '57 Chevy and OK billboards.

To the rest of you that insist on doing "non-diecast car" related projects...good work as well! Smile Joe

David,
I started with Woodland Scenic gray, medium grit with some cinders in places. But, when I projected how much I would need for the whole layout, I did some experimenting.

I ended up using a lot of ground walnut shells from the pet store. They sell it for lizard bedding, I guess. I colored it with acrylic paint to match the Woodland Scenic gray. The section in the photos is mostly walnut shells.

An important last step, I think, is to go over the ties and ballast with a wash of gray acrylic paint. This brings everything together.

A tip I got from one of Dennis Brennan's posts was to add some coloring to the diluted white glue or matte medium that you use to bond the ballast. That would accomplish the same thing.

I'm going to experiment with chicken grit as well. I really like the look of woodland scenics ballast, but its very expensive for the small amount they sell. I will have to look into ground walnut shells as well. The shells are the same size as the woodland scenics ballast? I believe the chicken grit sample I have is slightly larger than the woodland scenics course size.

David,
The shells are just about the same size as the WS coarse. It's a little bigger than I'd like, but sometimes I sprinkle a little WS medium or fine on top just before bonding. The WS goes a long way this way.
