My little people have been complaining that the most photogenic scenes on the layout have been cityscapes. I too have always wanted a nice scenic area to photograph my engines.

My surveying team located such a spot this weekend and didn't take long to lay some track through the area. The entire scene is about 4 feet long.

Since it's to the west between the big city and Poughkeepsie, it will be called the Palisades.

The entire cliff was carved out of a single piece of 2 inch thick pink Styrofoam. Actually, "hacked" using a serrated steak knife would be a better description of the process.

It was painted with flat latex house paint. For once, I didn't use a layer of plaster over the Styrofoam which resulted in a more rugged, jagged look to the rocks.

Jim -

Very nice job and thanks for sharing. I guess I need to get off my duff and make something happen in the RR department.

Thanks, guys.

I already have plans for some "Rand-inspired" colors! Remember the gold mine opening on the Red Rocks cliff? Someday you will be able to look through that portal into "another world."

I've already been accused by a few of my friends of harboring some tiny aliens in there who come out at night to do most of my work for me. Might as well give them a colorful home! No more peeking, Tony (ALCO Fan), until it's done!
