Big Lots has an assortment of 16 pine trees (bottle brush shape)for $6. Look for Item 91991 in the Christmas section.

Home Depot has a package of 21 trees (bottle brush shape) for $5.97!

Home Depot had a similar deal last year. I'd expect they will this year as well.

You can leave them like that or paint them green. For added realism, add some green ground foam to them right after you spray paint them.

Where are they in Home Depot?

Is it real? Do you see it, too? We all see it. That don't make it real.

Ours is in the Christmas Display Section. I waited until after Christmas last year to get them half price, but it I think they were about double $5.97 being charged this year. Here is last year's trees:

I did buy two more yesterday, but will plan to purchase more after Christmas (I have another whole mountain to build and to scenic).

You could run them under warm water and wipe the snow off, once dry you could add ground foam for a summer look.

What size are the HD ones? Most are too small for foreground trees I usually find. Our Pines around her grow to 60+ feet tall. That's 15" in O scale. I haven't found a premade tree that big yet. The smaller ones do look good in the background though.
