At the point of adding trees to the layout. I'm ready to begin buying trees and kits to make trees. The layout is large and will accomdate numerous trees. I'm hopeful of combining a few more expensive "realsitic" trees with ones made from kits, ie, Woodland Scenics.

Any suggestions on brand names of realistic trees and kits so as to achieve a great look at a reasonale price. Certain individual trees can get expensive in the $10 plus range.

Capetrainman,

I make conifer trees as a side business. Here is my tree page on my site:

custom conifer trees

Here is an order I did a few weeks ago of 30 trees varying in size from 12",15",18" and even a 24" tall tree.

I built these Super Trees from forum sponsor Scenic Express as one of my first scenery projects. The vehicles are 1:32.

Grand central gems makes some great trees that you can buy.

I've tried a few different types of trees.
The Fine Scale Miniatures have a very convincing trunk from sage.
They are a little expensive but not bad for the looks of the final product.

see this thread
trees

with leaves

they even look ok without leaves

Bought my first Grand Central Gems yesterday....good value. I've placed the spruces in one of the mountain areaw and they look good. Looking forward to working with desiduous trees soon.
