I knew my little Olympus digital camera had a video mode but had never tried it. About an hour ago I plopped it on a flatcar and pushed it around part of the layout with an RS-1.

It made it most of the way until it reached my wife's Christmas village under the On30 trestles.

Now I have to learn how to use my video editing software to clean it up and add a little surf music in the background.

But I thought I'd share my rough shots with the scenery gang, first.

OK, we've got a new version. It's cleaned up a little with some music.

Very nice tour of the layout, Jim! You're right, though, a little sound (music) would complete the journey.

Smile

Jim thanks for the tour. Your layout is great looking. It was a pleasure not to hear all the diesel and loco sounds. A little background surf music would fit the bill.

OK, the original link now leads to a new version complete with a soundtrack of sorts.

You get the Gold Medal of surf music trivia if you can identify the band and/or the name of the song!!!

Rick,
Not the Ventures, although they are among my all-time favorites. These guys are much more obscure!

Sounds like Santo and Johnny, though not the song I'm most familiar with.

Vulcan,
Santo and Johnny's Sleepwalk was their big one - but it's not them.

Hey Jim I feel when listening to the music Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello should be frolicking and holding hands at the station platform! Great Video!-Don

OK, Jim. I just built the Fairbanks-Morse Coal Loader....I saw it in your video. What did you think of the kit when you built yours? BTW, that should have been ME holding hads with Annette Funicello!

Annette and I go back to the Mickey Mouse Club days when she was a Mouseketeer!!! One more reason to rush home from school to watch TV.

Back to trains!

Jim,
That coaling station is scratchbuilt from styrene. I built the same model in HO in balsa back in the early 60's following plans in "Model Railroader" magazine. It was one of my first scratchbuilding projects.

I always wanted to try it in O scale and finally got around to it last year. I still had the same copy of "Model Railroader" to go by! I guess not throwing things away pays off on occasion!

How was the kit?

Jim

It looks nice, good job. Mine is built from an old SUNCOAST MODELS kit.(sticks and pieces). I think I will just scratchbuild it too, next time.

Well, Jim, it looks like you are going to have to tell us who did the song. or at least give a hint.

I never did think anyone would have heard of them.

Would you believe a surf group from Finland?!!

They call themselves "Laika and the Cosmonauts" after all those USSR citizens (and dog) who "volunteered" to be shot into space. The song is called "Fadeaway." They did the version of Miserlou on the 2-rail video too.

I've always liked obscure surf groups, and these guys certainly qualify!

This video has been added to my favorites, I just had too!

If I reject reality and substitute 3-Rail, how does Narrow Gauge come into all of this?
