Good morning folks, since I was up I'd thought I'd get the showcase up for today even though since I am still waiting for an order from HobbyInc with the supplies I need to do the latest project I am working on, and after being away on my mission trip I've had a ton of stuff around here to catch up on as we prepare for a family vacation to Hilton Head, so I don't have anything to postbut love to see what you guys have been working on.

OK, so many people can not have a "Professor ED" type ice dock because of it's size. Well, Ed does have some competition with Bubble Head, or Bubble's Ice as it's called.
Bubble's is a friendly place where you can sit a spell and have a Coke and watch the world go by. Modified WhiteGround Model Works kit. OK, I have enough ice docks so on to a gas station or maybe I just better get back to track work and major carpentry (which I hate) Dan "If you over think, you stink!" |

Dan,
Very nice structure - just the right size for most layout scenes. Don, Can't wait to visit the newly expanded Wildwood Harbor. I'll have to be sure to pick up one those souvenirs on the shelf on my next visit. Looks great! Railfanning MTH 2-8-8-2 near Hecksgate signal bridge: Jim |

slow start today but some great work up here already!
paul: after seeing some of your latest scenery work and that wonderful ballast color combo you have been utilizing, i sure hope some of your pics this sunday will include shots of the layout! don: congrats on the write up in the magazine. that lighthouse scene is fantastic ... although, with all the joking on rand's krylon thread, i kind of lit up when i saw it! dan, the railroad man: keep those shots coming of the ice service facility. i thought last weeks shots were great, but these are equally stunning. fascinated with the attention to detail ... very 'vulcan-esque'. any funny signs on this side? jim: weathering and lighting are second to none ... i dont know how you continue to amaze, but you come through each and every week. heard you have another article coming out in the next edition: are they paying you still or giving you stock options in the company?!? LOL, no one comes close to really getting the nitty gritty right like you. keep it up (no lighthouse puns please!) "slow and steady" i once heard a tortoise say ... peeking out of the shell every sunday! here is my latest progress. was able to put down a topcoat over the primer and weathered it a bit with some of the 'salt' technique i've been using. still lots of work to go, but this sunday showcase ensures a benchmark to measure progress by. here are a few shots ... hope to build some windows and doors this week. lord help me! looking forward to seeing some more great shots this sunday. dont forget to stop by the token three rail blog to see a few new additions as well as to cast your vote for the august token build (well it will actually be a september build, but what the heck!) |

Great looking Ice House Don, I tried to Google that building and I guess it's no longer made?
Jim as always your pictures and work is just outstanding. Fish that board and batten is really coming together, keeping it slow and steady, it is working great! Hmmmmmmmmmmm wonder where the rest of the guys are? Paul S. bfishma: fantastic weathering. I did something like that years ago using rubber cement and painting over and then rubbing off. Looks OK but not like yours.
Paul: Yes, these guys went out of business, or at least stopped making kits, a long time ago. I have one more to build. Foundry and Pattern House. I built one and it's on Ted Schnepf's layout. Now I have to build another one for myself Nice kits but a bit over priced for the 80's when they were released. Dan "If you over think, you stink!" |

Great work all!
I had to smile at the lighthouse, too. I'll never look at them the same now. But great shots, Don. Dan, that's a neat little ice house. I like the attention to details. Jim, as always, great pictures. The composition is always fantastic. Fish, I really like the weathering and colors you've chosen. Don't fear those windows and doors, they'll be a nice little learning experience. Hummmm, where's Paul? Oh, there he is. I hope to be back soon with some shop shots. Say that five times real fast!! |

I was very proud of myself for the self-control that I showed when responding to Don's excellent new lighthouse. I avoided the four bad puns that popped-up in my mind (oops...make that 5).

Hello everyone!
Don, you have finally coaxed me out of hiding here on the forum! We are having fun here working on your Wildwood Harbor structures. This is my first post here, although I have visited here many times to admire everyones excellent work. Keep up the great work! Maria

Nice work, Maria.
Ok, I've been working on finishing up the O scale engine lathe and re-vamping what I could of the HO scale machinery. I'm converting all to electric motors, as opposed to the overhead steam belts/pulley system. I am still toying with where to fit everything in, so I've only added a few of the electrical drops. Still have to add electric cords as well. But here's where I is now. O scale Engine lathe. Small engine lathe on heavy duty bench. MacCabe lathe with new pedestals. Trying to put the bed height on all equipment in the 36" to 42" range. Radial drill press with added base. Work bench with "stuff" added. Newly refurbished planer has arrived at the shop. Foreman George is trying to figure out where the heck he's going to put it. Secretly he's thinking he should not have agreed to upgrade to "indoor plumbing". It takes up a lot of valuable floor space. |

Maria, Welcome to the forum! I'm glad the other forum members now have the chance to meet you. Maria has provided the craftsmanship behind many of the structures seen on Don Klose's layout, both in the OGR article in Run 230 and here on the forum. One of my favorites is the facade of this old Schenectady building. Maria made use of various pasta shapes and rice, I believe, to create the molds for the hydrocal castings in the finished building. Amazing! Jim |

Wow! Maria, that is a highly detailed piece of art.
Makes me hungry looking at it, for some reason. |

Mrs Milepost 12 - your work is stellar, and an inspiration to me. I am now really interested in seeing some more photos and description of how you used pasta shells and other items to create that beautiful building front.

Thanks! The roof is removable. I have an 18" under cabinet florescent light that I propped up over the shop to light things up. It does help a lot but is PITA trying to work around. |

Vulcan...Thank you for the compliment! Your interior details are superb! JohnBoy....I am glad to be your inspiration! There are alot of every day things that can be used to add details on a building. Your inagination has no limits! bfishma... trying to keep this one alive and on the table ... a few more shots of the rural crossing and the gully creek

bfishma - we were on vacation two weeks ago for a week in the OBX, but my mind is pretty much always on permanent vacation. Or at least, my memory is!
That gully bridge has really evolved into a super-detailed scene. Excellent placement of rocks, branches, and water. Have you submitted some of those photos to RR (Readers Rails)? Excellent shots, fish!
A few more inside the shop. Though most are now obsolete, as far as placement. I settled on a different floor plan. Work bench is in the same spot, as well as the small lathe. |
