In my never ending web searching I ran across this interesting flat car load. It's interesting, at least to me, because of what it is. Can anyone guess what it is?
The correct answer will receive a hardly, virtual, pat on the back. |

Keeping in the spirit if the Token build here's a shot of a local freight depot.

OK, I think they are pre-formed concrete wall/ room sections for a building, like a hotel. Well, that was too easy. Al, you were technically correct, but cave man clubbed it.

Huh. But why the double-doors for the individual cells?
Would make a neat casting... John December All-Star Photo Poll - Photo Submission Deadline is Sun, Nov. 30 11:30 PM November All-Star Photo Poll - Voting Deadline is Sun, Nov. 30 11:30 PM My train page: John's Trains |

Good question, John. Maybe it's actually two cells?
Anyway, in keeping with the fun. found this. To me it looks funny (Odd, that is). I've seen the stop signs on gates that protect crossings. Anyone found a 4-way stop? I'm looking for an overhead traffic signal, haven't seen one, yet.

Bizarre - did you find that as-is somewhere? Or did you Photoshop it?
I think it's funny (funny if it's a doctored photo - alarming if it's real...) John December All-Star Photo Poll - Photo Submission Deadline is Sun, Nov. 30 11:30 PM November All-Star Photo Poll - Voting Deadline is Sun, Nov. 30 11:30 PM My train page: John's Trains |

Vulcan : nice pics. !! Do you know what other RR crosses that diamond ? Probably a shortline RR crosses through there or that CSX eng. is on a branch or shortline RR picking up or setting out.
Nice to see you start a Friday photo Fun !! Thanks, John |

Concrete jails???, What ever happened to the great ideas from Sheriff Joe Arapio(?) from Az or NM? Tente should be good enough! That's what our past and present American fighting men and women use ia all weather conditions! America has "gone soft" as in Candy-a**!

Each precast unit is two cells. The triangle shaped hole in each block is where all the mechanicals run. My company did a job with this same setup a number of years ago. It was pretty neat how they stacked up on each other. The only work we had to do was in that chase, everytihng in the cell came installed.

Thanks, John. My intent was not to compete with the weekend photo fun, or for that matter, the Sunday showcase but rather focus on the fun (unusual)aspect. Though this may be a difficult tradition to establish. I've had that picture of the crossing for a while and have long forgotten the details. Scott, thanks for the details on the modules. My first reaction, before looking closer and reading the description, was that they were septic tanks. |

|
|

I was going to guess septic tank. If they are jail cells I guess that is close enough
I worked at the Manhattan Project some years ago as they were getting ready to examine the area for toxic waste. The site is in a forest preserve and the hiking/bicycle trail ran through it. One of the hikers was telling us how they used to sneak into the building through the tunnel. I said, "The septic drain?" "Oh no," he said, "the large concrete tunnel that leads to the lake." I repeated, "Yes, the septic drain." His face lost some color as he understood what I was saying They had a very large septic system because they used the lake water to cool the reactor. In those days they just mixed the waste water with the cooling water. Rand Give me fuel. Give me fire. Give me that which I desire! |

Here is what I have been busy doing. A small woods. The one tree is 24" tall. I added a lightning strike up the side of it. See the Arttista hobo sitting & standing at the base.

1 way stop: |

I dunno - with guys like Rand and myself, you'll probably end up with plenty of fodder! That is a truly bizarre photo. Someone must have set it up as a joke, I imagine. Surely they don't expect a 60,000-ton train to come around the bend, see a stop sign, and drop all air to come to a complete stop - look both ways, and then punch the gas? We need AlanH to come up with a Photoshopped Police Genesis loco or something, to pull over all those trains that came to a "rolling stop" Too funny! The 1 way stop is real. The little red thing on the tracks to the left of the stop sign is part of the traffic control. What is it???
I'll post the link to the answer later. |
||||
|
|
|
That's what I'm talking about, Ike! Strange, indeed. What is the red thing? A spike strip?
John, I guess the usual would be unusual with Rand. |

Al, I am puzzled, and, you being the scenery guru you are, can, I'm sure, unpuzzle me and explain something to me. Nice trees! you placed your trees before landscaping. My question is, won't this make putting down plaster cloth challenging, as well as paint, grass, whatever? If you have found some way to accomplish this, I'd love to know as it would save a lot of time! |
