Don, your scenery skills are outstanding, the shot of the lumber mill area is amazing!! Nice job!!

SIRT, what can I say, your weathering jobs always look so real!!

I have been working allot on the layout this week, mostly paint buildings and some boring stuff like wiring accessories but I was able to start on the Moonville station area, I still have a long way to go but I thought I would share some pictures of my progress so far.

The first set are a refinishing job I did on a Lionel toy store pre-built building. I even added my first interior, it's not as good as the fine folks Mark and Maria do for Don's but I think it's not bad for my first attempt. Here a similar building and what it looked like before...

Now heres the after....

My next project was working on an OGR Amerti-towne Burke Building, I've finished painting it and am still deciding whether to attempt another interior or just use the window coverings that came with the building....

And finally here is the progress on the Moonville station that I've started, I still have allot to do yet but here it is so far....

After working on the layout everyday all week long you look back on Friday at what you've done and it doesn't look like you've done anything?!?!?!? Roll Eyes Sorry to be so long winded.

I've been working on a small little corner of my layout. My son did the boxcar. He put the flooring in and also made the crates. The pillar crane is a kit I picked up in York last week.

Every one of these projects are top shelf!

I'm still working on Sharky's Loan and Plaza Liquors

We are in negotiations with the USO and may be renting out the third floor to them.

Top notch work, guys!!

Catchy slogan, Ray. Smile

This little project has been working on me all week.

The HO version was done from pictures and drawings which I no longer have, some I'm using it as the guide for the On30 version, with some modifications to narrow gauge it.

Both pictures were taken at the same time, in the same light. Confused

WOW!!!! You folks are true craftsman! I look in awe at these pictures every weekend in amazement. You make the scenes look so real. You should all be proud of what you have and will create. I know it does not mean much coming from me but I did want you to know that your work and pictures are appreciated.

Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing more!

Lots of great stuff posted this Sunday everybody Thanks

dk
I have been sitting here trying to visualize how to layout my new diorama area and you post this picture which solidified the idea of having a town area built on a hill. Your multilevel effect is terrific

The diorama is 7 feet long by 30 inch at the widest end. And want to showcase a brewery in the background and an 30ish type small town.

Would appreciate ideas or pictures of similar building scenes.

Happy Rails to you

Wow, another great Sunday Showcase!

SIRT - I love that car to begin with and your top notch weathering is a beautiful touch.

Dave - Your son really has talent! Nice work on the crane too!

and Raymanssr2, I hope you will post another round of pictures once you rent the 3rd floor out at Sharky's.

I've continue my work on Fallingwater. Here are a couple photos of my progress. Today, I cut all the windows and terrace walls for the 3rd floor so I should be able to finish that section in fairly short order. (FYI, at least on my computer the red appears a little brighter in the photos than it really is, actually I'm not thrilled with the way the piece is photographing at this stage, but unfinished work is always a little raw)

I was worried about getting all these windows square and straight in this long run. For these I made a rectangular tube out of clear 1/16th" plexi and carefully shaved thin slices off on the band saw. A little clean up around the edges, paint and voila perfectly sized and square windows.

I am using real sandstone on the entire exterior and where it will be seen on the interior.

This terrace shot shows the stone floor.

Patty - Very nice work!
My Dad worked on the Frank Lloyd Wright house (The Crimson Beech)on Staten Island in 1959.
He also made scale models like yours on all his houses prior to building them.
He was from Bradford PA.
Brings back memories.

Keep up the good work.

Wow! There's some really terrific and innovative stuff in here this week. All of you keep raising the bar.

Patty - what you're doing is really interesting; I've been following it since the beginning. I am really digging that stacked-stone facade. Very interested in seeing the progress as it unfolds.

Steve,

How neat that your dad worked on the Crimson Beech house! Not many folks can say that. Was your interest in modeling sparked by your dad's model building? No wonder you are so good, it's in your blood! Did he do a model of the FLW house?

Jim,

I found large flat stones on my property that were starting to break apart in very thin, small pieces the result of years of exposure. From there I used a diamond cutting wheel on a dremel to cut them into rectangular pieces for the walls but ones I'm using on the floors are "as is" in size, thickness and shape to what I picked off the large stones.

Don, beautiful work, Dirt as always, great weathering, KGsouth, Ace is the place, Dave Great detail, Like the hobo box car, Ray Great work, Vulcan as always...nice, Patty things are coming along nicely.
Here is a spray booth I finished today. Not much on scenerey but this should help me with my weathering and detailing. It's 26x20 and it's a little stout but I had the wood laying about. The fan is quiet which is nice and I built the light in the front. Can't wait to use it, maybe next weekend

Paul, that looks great!

But with all that electrical around it I would plug into a GFCI outlet. (Just a thought). I'm mainly concerned about the light in the paint booth. They are usually sealed, even in large industrial paint booths.

I think it's coming together great! I can tell there is a lot of time and thought put into it. And I know it's tedious work.

I also would like to see how you have the doors hung (sometime when you're ready), they look really cool.

And is that a basement vent I see in the lower section of the foundation?

Very nice work.

Thanks Vulcan, I have a GFCI in the garage outlet I'll be working in, but is there another way to get light into the booth or hang the light differently? Appreciate the input.

Thanks Vulcan,

I think what you are refering to as a basement vent is actually a window that is partially boarded up, just like the prototype was.

Here is a closeup of the hanging door:

Wire from a twist tie was used to fashion an eyebolt and drilled and glued into the top of the door.

Paul, I'm probably being overly cautious (which usually in these situations, I'm not) but having worked as an electrician and around commercial spray booths in the past my concerns are mainly with the light being in the booth ( as I mentioned earlier), not only is there an outlet in it but the switch is on it. Anytime you flip a switch there is a small electrical arc. That and paint fumes don't mix.

Light switches and the actual booth lights are mounted outside of the booth. In the case of the large commercial ones there is a plexiglas shield in the roof of the booth.

So, in your case, I would cut a hole in the roof and mount a sheet of plexiglas over the hole (sealed with caulk) and mount the light above that.

This may be overly cautious but you should err on caution. And let the vent fan run for awhile after, you think you're through, in case you find in a few minutes, you're not. And decide to flip that switch again. Smile

Paul, I should have added earlier, if you use only water-based paints, such as PolyScale, it won't be a problem. Just the petroleum-based paints, such as Floquil, that there might be a problem.

That is one beautiful project. The Kaufmann family and the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, (present care takers of Fallingwater) would be proud. You have real water on the layout, are you going to use real water/a real water fall, as part of the model?
