I wanted to post "some" (HA! Big Grin ) pictures of a scratchbuilding project. The pictures show the full sequence from step 1 thru completion.

I haven't been following the scenery forum too closely or for very long. maybe there are many threads showing in-progress work but I know that I (personally) haven't seen but a handful. So I thought it would be a good thread.

Not that I could teach you guys anything though!!!! Basically just for general interest.

Some of the pictures I laugh at and think you will too becuase they are shots of some of my "sophisticated" tools (remember the green bean cans, well that was nothing!), so I want to include them too.

However, that adds up to 30 pictures. I have them reduced but each one still is close to the 120 KB OGR limit.

When I open a thread I prefer seeing the pictures in the thread rather than a link to an album. With 30 pictures though I'm not too comfortable posting that many.

Would it be better to:
1. post a link to each of the 3 albums that I will need?
2. post all 30 pictures in the thread right away?
3. post 10, then 10 later, then 10 later based on stages?

What would your suggestions be considering this is a scenery forum???

Walt,

Too much is never enough.........

But having stated that maybe post a few at a time starting at the beginning so that we can see where you started and where you are going.....and then add a few each day this week.......

Stretch it out and prolong the suspense!

Walt - my preference would be 3) in your list, and when I have a large project, that's what I tend to do. Start a new thread for your project, post maybe 4 - 10 photos to start with, and then wait a few days for comments, suggestions, questions, etc. This gets a nice conversation going, and I find I can learn things from wiser people than me - sometimes before I make a mistake.

Then post some more pics, etc. By spoon-feeding us, you keep the thread active over a longer period of time, and this also prevents overwhelming folks with too much info. all at once.

Please don't hesitate to share as many photos as you care to. I think that's a big part of what makes this forum, and this scenery section in particular, so great.

Thanks,

John

Walt:
I did a pictoral of my scratch built turnable. It had 40 pictures. One of the major problems with multiple pictures is for those still on dial-up or anyting other than high speed internet connection. This type of post/thread has to loose some of the audience, though I must say I enjoy pictoral "how to" 's. I alway seem to pick-up techniques that I would have never thought of.

PhotoBucket has a thumbnail option to click to enlarge. I would suggest mixing some full sized images and thumbnails.

the more pictures the better! its how i like my books too. Big Grin

the only beef i ever have with pictures has to do with their sizing. this is for two reasons: speed of download and scrolling for side to side. i have high speed internet, so the load time is a moot point for me but i don know that those with dial-up have a long wait ahead of them the larger the picture size. more importantly for me, the scrolling from left to right required to view pictures over the size limit to fit on the screen is extremely annoying. not only can i no long view the picture as a whole, but the text is also affected because it requires horizontal scrolling as well.

so more pics please, by all means! just size them accordingly. Smile

OK, I'm back from stoking up!!! Big Grin

Yes, I'm on dialup at home. I usually don't open threads with pictures saving those for when I hit the public library or the occassional OGR visit at work. That's probably why I think posting 30 pictures is an issue.

Rand: I might have to sign up for a photobucket account and try your suggestion. sounds like a nice compromise. If I don't, I'll probably follow the suggestions above and post a handful at a time.

Walt, you should be able to judge from the thumbnails I posted the 56K speed.

Rand,
Thanks for the tip on the Photobucket clickable thumbnails. I'm going to have to use that feature. I never knew it existed.

I would vote for posting photos that are larger than thumbnail size. For those of us who print-out the threads for future reference, we would have no means of viewing the enlarged version later.

How about writing the text then inserting a few key photos with clickable links to more related photos? That would give a page of text with maybe 5 open photos spaced thru it and 25 clickable links?....dave

Walt, if you can get them uploaded and posted on dial-up, then it's probably not too many. Wink Smile
